Hey Everybody. This is the first thread I have hosted, so if I am doing something wrong, let me know. I am a NUBE!!!! Newayz...........

I just recently bought a 2009 Vista Blue Ford Focus SE Coupe. I already have 17" MSR 138's on it and window tint. I am plainning to do much more to it. Right now, however, I am focused on gaining some inexpensive hp. I can only shell out about $500-$600 until I deploy. I was looking at the FS Duratec Cool FLo cold air intake. I am just trying to some options that will help me gain about 20-30 hp. If you have any advice or news let me know. Thanks

Intake and exhaust should open that puppy right up. :D

nice 09 btw.

did you have any issues with the TPMS?(tire pressure light)

no. The shop I bought them through took the sensors out of my stock wheels and put them in these. Thanks. I am trying to wait on the ehaust till a body kit comes out that I like, so I can have dual exhaust.

Hey you're in the same boat I am! From what Ive found out so far, the FS cold air intake is not compatible with the 09... yet. Last I heard it would be available early march.

As far as anyone has told me, the headers designed for the duratec will all work on the 09's.

Suspension is also hit or miss. I saw you had new rims, there are springs available by H&R and Eibach, and coil-overs by H&R. I have yet to find struts for the 09 other than by ford. Be careful though, a lot of companies dont distinguish between the 08/09 and previous generations.

Post up if you know any other parts compatible with the 09's!

Yeah. I saw a post where the FocusSport guy said it would be out sometime soon. I hope he was right. How many hp would we gain from it. I know it probably wont be alot. The K & N performance air intake for our model only gains like 5 hp. I hope it is a little more. I saw that Import Tuner gained 22 hp on an EVO just by dropping in a K & N air filter. Do you think the same would apply to us? It should, right?

Intake is the best bang for the buck on bolt ons(minus turbo)

as for suspension the FRPP kit works well from what I have heard.

is there a difference between the 08 and the 09 intake requirements?

No. Im keeping them. I am gonna switch out the rims if I go on vacation. Dont want to completely wear down my aftermarket wheels or tires. I would use the stock wheels and tires if I go a long distance. I am in the military, so that might happen often.

I dont know if there is a difference. I wouldnt think so. There is so significant difference between the 08 and 09 models.

I'm in the military too. I had 13" steelies on my car when I bought it used and they were all bent. So I bought some aftermarkets.
Besides that, The CAI is a good idea maybe a SCT tune from FocusSport.

The factory probably choked the car up for who knows what reason. My guess would be aftermarket promotion.
I do remember reading that the US put a heavier emissions requirement on the Japanese market to help hold them back from outselling the US automakers. Restricting the engine could've been how they overcame the issue. Talk about backfiring!

22hp... I wish. I'm just happy to be sharing the Mazda/Ford designed Duratec with the MS3. Though slightly different, they are basicaly the same and many part will bolt on both.

Yeah. I like the whole look over past models.

I would put your $500-600 towards a nice suspension kit and stickier tires when you wear those out. Nothing short of a turbo kit will give you the same performance/$ ratio as a well sorted suspension and sticky tires. 20-30 extra fwhp is going to be pretty difficult to do without some serious bolt-ons. If the Cosworth stuff fits the 09, that would probably be your best bet. I guess it depends on how much of your warranty you are willing to toss out the window. Nate

I think F2 is working on something and FS might have something as well. I would check out some websites and make some phone calls to be sure. With the engine layout of the Duratec, I think a turbo would be a more space efficient option. It will also have a slightly better weight distribution. Nate

but how much pressure can the duratec engine handle? cause with a super charger u get more out of like 5 psi than u can with a turbo

#18 ·
The duratec can safely handle 8psi on stock internals. There are no superchargers for the 09. There is a turbocharger kit from focussport but you have to drive to anaheim to get it, they cant sell it to you otherwise because of compatability with the ECU.

If you just want to spend $600, go with exhaust and CAI from FS, quick way to get a few horsepower albeit not a huge gain, maybe 10hp or so. The intake however is not available yet. Anyone want to post a list of parts compatible with the 09's?? There isnt a lot yet, but it is growing

I just bought the FS Duratec Header and 2.5 Flex Pipe with the Stealth Exhuast from FS. I think it is going to do some nice horsepower for the 09 I got. Honestly I was literally thinking around 140-150 maybe. I dont know, time will tell when I get to a dyno. But hey, good luck in the Air Force and your Deployment!

Still a few more weeks on the new CAI for us! Just be patient and time will come little grasshopper!

Ivan at FS is the man when hooking up the cars!

Give them a call!

Our 08 is at the dyno again for final stage 1 numbers and stage 2 will be next month....also soon we will have an 09 in as well...

I also wanna see somebody come out with a body kit worth buying. I dont like the lips that people install on their cars. I am waiting for a full body kit....I mean a full front bumper, rear bumper and some kickass side skirts. Then I can put the exhaust in.

#24 ·
I wouldn't hold your breath. With a completely new, and admittedly much cooler, Focus only a year or so away, I don't think there will be too many body kits available for the 08-09 Focus. Nate

I honestly believe that they would foolish to not produce parts for the 08-09 model. Regardless wether they are coming out with a new model or not, they will still make parts for it.
