Hey all I need some help. I have a noise that seemed to be coming from behond and below the intake cam gear. It also seems that the belts are close to coming off the edge of the gears and I wanted to see what you guys thought about the cause of the noise as well as if the belt location is ok/resonable or off/dangerous. Thanks.

Thanks again...

The noise is VERY diffcult to describe and therefore imagine. The best description I can give is an rpm related "cat shield" rattle, kinda like BBs in a metal can but faster and more like them being grinded down. That sound makes me think the bearings in one of the pullies (assuming there are bearings in there somewhere). I hope that helps out. Thanks...

my belt was walking off but a lot worse than yours is, it started like yours but eventually started walking off the gears and started to rub on the plate that the motor mount bolts to and started shredding the belt, i replaced the tensioner and its been fine since. I would definately keep your eye on it to make sure its not coming off anymore.

Ummmmm OK...I still haven't gotten the car to the dealer. So I decided to check under the hood once again. This time I noticed that the intake cae gear has about 1-2mm of side to side (passenger to driverside) wobble. And the more that I tr to listen hard to where the sound is coming from it seemes to be from the cam gear area. Any ideas...I WILL take it in ths week, just hard to cough it up knowing that I need it most days and knowing how busy the claimed to be before...

Wow, you are having the exact same issues as myself...my intake it seems has a slight wobble, and I have a constant tapping noise...directly related to the RPM speed (more noticeable at idle and takeoff)....I still dont know whats making the noise though...

If the gear is wobbling, something is not right, either the gear is bent or the gear is not tightend/secured all the way.

But what would ake the sound quiet down by like 200% as the car warms up??? That must mean its internal and something happens as the oil flow gets through the car. Welll...on thursday I will find out, the car is due to the dealer for all its probs on Thurs!!!

Anyone have any idea on how much ford will charge to fix this? Im sure they will notice the Cam gears and assume new cams, if asked i'll probably tell them they are after market, so i know it wouldn't be warrantee. But it seems my timing belt tensioner is missing a metal ring. In which case I may need a new tensioner, and then that will probably F up the timing, and i'll have to re-do it, or they well....ugh..soooo many problems (self caused)

I dont know if you solved this problem yet, but I replaced my tensioner (took like 10 minutes) and it solved the problem of my intake gear having a slight wobble, didn't solve the slight engine sound though, i'll associate that with incorrect valve timing...but you should probably replace your tensioner, $50 at ford...mine was obviously broken, as the new peice was all tight and wouldn't come apart, when I took my tensioner off, it fell into 3 peices...

Thanks for the heads up..unfortuneatly I'm going to have to wait until I get the car back to Florida to its regular dealer so I can get the "SVT specific" work done to it. Hopefully if it is causing a timing a problem it'll hold out for another few weeks. As of yet everything has been the same...power, power delivery, and even fuel economy, so I'm not too worried...should I be?

Do the SVT and ZX3 use the same belt? Can I get them to replace the belt even though its an SVT. Something is starting to shred the belt, like its rubbing against something every time around. But its just wearing away at the sides of the belt. How much do those belts cost? Thanks...

I think the timing belt was quoted to me at $50.
