There's a noise coming from my dash; never heard it before and I always start the car the same way without the stereo on. It sounds like a relay clicking on and off every 10 seconds.

34,000 miles on a 2.3 PZEV ZX3 automatic.

Thanks for any input.

Does it with or without A/C on.

Driven the car three times since my first post; same thing evey time, and it's never done this before.

I'm looking in the owner's guide now for all listed relays...

all relays that are inside the cabin are located on the back of the fuse panel.

Re: Sounds like a relay clicking on and off every 10 seconds

Thanks.

The Owner's Guide lists functions for the relays that are in the power distro box under the hood, but not for the relays under the dash; #'s R17, R18, R19 & R23, R24 and R25 have no function description.

And it's one of those six with no description that is cycling on/off or off/on every 10-12 seconds with ignition key on and with or without engine running...

I need a function explanation for these six!

i know AC was mentioned

but i had something similar

it was a popping noise of some sort.....turns out AC was cycling over and over....airforce told me the duratecs do that way in excess
thought i'd add somehow to this

Re: Sounds like a relay clicking on and off every 10 seconds

pull 'em and see what stops working

Good one!

ax0n would know that the ones I speak of are not easily removable unless the underdash fuse block is separated from t3h metal frame...

Anyho0, I've narrowed it down to # R18 with the long screwdriver to the ear, to the nose (lol; it works) and finally a mechanic's stethoscope and ultimately the tip of my finger on each of the six underdash relays...

I've spoken to a person who has the Ford tech CD's loaded into his laptop; but it will not be coRvenient for him to access said data until later this eve.

I wanted to leave on a 900 mile road trip tomorrow, so squaring this away would be peachy.

Thanks anyway, Danny; I know it's not the A/C clutch.

what's funny is the rear wiper kicks about every 10 seconds... have you been watching your rear wiper? It'd be funny if you had the wiper switch pulled forward

You SON OF A BITCH!
I'ma gonna go check that now...

Reason being is that I've YANKED OUT THE REAR WIPER MOTOR AND ARM when I installed the painted hatch strip... I have t3h d3l373, you know.

Be back in a minute.

3 minutes later...

T3H aX0n IS T3H 93N1u5.

Thankyouverymuch.

And that would be pulled rearward to run the rear intermittent wiper; forward is off.

That is indeed, SIR, what it was.

Now of course I'd have seen the rear wiper arm move every time I heard the relay, but since there's no motor or arm in the hatch, I had no idea...

W3wT!!!

And I know which way the switch goes, I just was thinking forward = toward the driver... but yah.

Glad to be of service.

"Distinguished Rear-Wiper"?

Close, but no cigar.

Remember, I had removed the entire wiper motor and wiper arm last month, and there is no other indication of the rear wiper being on other than a one inch change in wiper stalk position...

AND THE FREAKING RELAY CLICKING LIKE CLOCKWORK.
