some of you may remember i bought a bike not too long ago. it is/was a 1979 Suzuki GS1000E that i bought when the rest of my family started riding. the idea was to keep it cheap because i wasn't sure if riding was something i was going to really get into. well, that bike lasted all of 2 weeks until i bent or broke something in the tranny.

fast forward to last thursday. Nick (cpslostang) picked himself a 2006 SV650, and, well, peer pressure is a mother.

here's my new toy:

mine's a 2003 Suzuki SV650s. picked it up with all of 4K miles for a VERY good price. only mod is a Two Bros Titanium exhaust and lots of 'carbon fiber' pieces.

oh, and for those of you who know me and are wondering 'how does that tall/big/fat mother fit on that thing?', well, pretty well actually. the bike has aftermarket risers that raise the handles 2" and peg adapters that move them down and back 1".

so far, i LOVE it. sporty enough to give me a thrill (and then some), but civil enough to be a good daily driver (v-twin torque is a Godsend) and of course RIDICULOUSLY fuel-efficient.

Nice! And great color choice, too!

Must be a million times nicer than your old beater
like you wouldn't believe. just jump on, fire her up, and go. no more praying she starts, or stays running, or stops, or sitting in a cloud of smoke.

looks great ! yours is soo much asthetically pleasing than your buddies.
the color> the farring> your bike pwns !

there is on in that color in my parking lot at work i love looking at it but the red and black R1 that parks next to it takes away from the sv's beauty a bit

Congratulations on your purchase! I've owned two SV's, and both were outstandingly reliable, fun, and acommodating for a "big" person.

You might want to check out a couple of website if you haven't already:
1) www.sv650.org
2) www.svrider.com

Both were fun to browse, and I particularly enjoyed seeing others ideas about modifications and customization of thier bikes. There was also a decent "how to" section on one of them (can't recall which, though).

Have fun, and keep the rubber side up!

i love the my SV. has a few things done to it. only two problems with mine. not enought horse and top end. and the other, bigger problem is that the stock suspension sucks! front end starts to hop in hard turns. in other words, the bike doesn't ride as well as i can. overall a great bike though!

nice looking bike, kipp!

which rear fender delete is that? i have one on my bike, but it doesn't so much as delete it as it does replace it with another big black thing, only mine's metal.

and yeah, i definetely feel you on both of those complaints. everyone i've talked to who knows these bikes bitches about the fron suspension, but all seem to agree that a heavier oil and possible different internal springs should take care of the issue. it's something i'll deinfetly look into seeing how i have the fotn suspension maxed out right now and still get more dive than i'd like.

as far as the power, i've wound her out a few times now and can already see where the addiction is gonna grow. this bike is still way faster than anything i've ever ridden/driven before, though, and should keep me happy for a good while. i was initially concerned the 'little' 650 wouldn't be enough to get my 300+ lb frame up and going. clearly, i was wrong, lol!

it's actually not a fender eliminator. the guy i bought it from cut the fender out and put a piece of ABS plastic in there. my recommendation as far as the suspensoin goes is to get fork springs meant for your weight and some emulators that will improve the dampening factor and also get a new setup for the back (racetech makes a good one). the other option for the front is to do a front end conversion and get one from a gixxer grand (forks, wheel, brakes, speedo, pretty much everything.)
