I love VW...

because tonight, I got to ride around in a relatively rare vehicle. For the US market anyway. A V10 Diesel toureg!! Holy crap this thing was amazing!! 535lb/t is really something to behold. From a standstill, I was driven into my seat, and this thing took off! From what I understand, there are only a few of these in the states for emissions reasons, I dunno???

i was really interested in these when i was looking for a new vehicle. but then i found out how f'n rare they are, which means they're f'n expensive.
the V10 TRegs are a beast...to my understanding...the ones that are available are here before the new emission standard came in effect. That's why VW had to discontiue them for the US market.

Best thing is...they actually had to chip the TQ down...since there is no tranny in the line up that can haddle close to 750 ft lbs...
cool, but not that impressive from what i hear...rare yes, but only because of the diesel market/emissions here

makes me wonder why people would spend money on it when they could afford a cayenne
...motortrend or one of em hated the thing performance wise, only good for offroading they said, which it wasn't that capable either

i mean i have ridden in a cayenne turbo that does 0-60 in 5.6..now that is fast for a SUV

too bad its a VW.
I'm pretty sure the intended goal for the thing wasn't to be fast.

I'd take one over a Cayenne.

so what was the goal?

..offroad capability, not really something you wanna climg a mountain with, even with that torque

..pulling capacity, you wont be living in a dobuble-decker mobile home if your driving that

..driving a VW with more torque than a viper, well maybe

p.s.- u nuts for the cayenne comment

it is very capable off road. 4-wheel and off-road gave it their 4x4 of the year award. the reason? Locking rear and center diffs, and a suspension that, when raised to its max gives over 20" of ground clearance. Partner that with the diesel, and son, you've got yourself the cushiest mountain climber ever!!!

meaning offroad capability sucks for the money because of the money...i wouldn't want to get mud on something that expensive

for that money you could build a rock-crawler from scratch

i dunno, just seems insane to pass up the better half for a VW

so by your logic, Hummer H1's shouldn't get dirty either because they're $100K+.

Land Rover discoverys, Range Rovers, LR3 and event he freelander, I have seen spank an Torauge. They have wheels that are to big and bend easy, terrible blind spots and an bad break over angle the LR do better with there 300hp v8 than that thing with more power and torque me=
LR can kick more ass and do

ur nuts right? how could you even compare the two in the same room...the H1 could freaking drive over cars and do close to 74degree inclines...ofcourse its worth gettin dirty, thats the heritage of the hummer and its built for it

on the other hand, i dont remember VW being king of the mud with their luxury SUV (which they call it, not a offroader)

Awesome stuff!

My mom was looking at that car for a while but I highly doubt that engine if it's rare!
She loved it, thought it was a pretty car! Then she looked at the gas mileage and almost cried.

I would like to buy a Touareg. I would take it off road, pull a camper, wife, kids, all in comfort.

Pull the camper, not the wife and kids. They can ride in the car with me!

all you said is you wouldn't want to get a Touareg muddy because of the money (~$40,000). an H1 is ~$140,000 new. i was just saying its a pretty stupid comment because there are way more capable offroaders (Touareg isn't even really meant for offroad, but can if it needs to) that cost ALOT more.

I'd love a V10TD Touareg.

Over a Cayenne? Yeah, probably.

I'd install some beefier tires and a billy-bob-******* bar and tow my race car through the mud. Perfect.
0-60 in 7.6secs is just not fast for that money...all im sayin

im not saying i wouldn't want one, just not for that price, so many of capable vehicles for that money
I would take the VW over the cayenne as well just based on the looks, the VW actually looks pretty good to me. Im not sure about the v10 diesel but with the gas VW's you can get them with the same brake/wheel/ tire package as the turbo cayenne and with that setup it beat the porsche in EVERY performance category except for acceleration.

We drove my Mom's Treg V8 up to Monterey and just happened to park next to a TReg V10 with manufacturers plates at the Nob Hill grocery store. I even took some pics, but well, kinda looks like a TReg.
