Here is my new project 1970 Datsun 510. L16, 5 speed. It is in rough shape but seems to be pretty solid so far. Not planning anything too crazy right now, just want to get this thing back to some of its former glory. I already have a TON of parts on the way for it. I will keep this updated as changes come.

Re: New project

I didn't even read, I just went straight for the first picture... I first thought it was a BMW 2002tii... but when I scrolled down further I could tell it wasn't. Nice looking car... like you said, it is a little rough, but the body appears rock solid. Nice find... I'm looking forward to updates now!

Re: New project

Plans for right now.
On order, to be delivered this week:
New front and rear door panels
New carper kit
New weatherstripping
New steering wheel
New seats
Autometer phantom in-dash speedo and tach
New taillight lenses
New dash pad
New rear view mirror
New outside mirrors
New header, will go on with new exhaust
New set 15x7 royal silver Rota RB (Panasport clones)
Top End Performance complete urethane suspension bushing set and lowereing springs
New Tokico front struts and rear shocks

Plans for the very near future:
The paint job is horrible and so is the body work. I have thoroughly checked all the panels inside and out and there is bondo that does not need to be there(prior owner was a teenager). I am going to redo all the body work and shoot the car flat black. I am also going to have the bumpers rechromed. Engine plans are minimal right now, I will eventually swap a newer motor in but right now I am going to stick with the old school. Dual sidedraft mikunis or webers and an Isky cam.

Re: New project

man that car would be so much fun, first thing i would do is all the bodywork, then maybe seam weld the hell outta thing thing. Stiffen the body wherever possible, and give it a nice 20 dollar paintjob or whatever it is.

I would just have fun tearing that thing apart and rebuilding from the ground up.

looks like a fun ass project though man

Re: New project

About 20 some odd years ago my neighbor, who was about 21or 22 at the time, bought a Datsun 510 and little by little I watched him paint it Orange, drop the engine in, lower it, put new seats, and then add rims and tires. I thought that car was soo freakin cool. Just the sound of the tuned exhaust is probably the reason why I like smaller cars today. He then sold it moved on to a mid 70's Corevette which he also painted orange. I always wondered what happened to that 510. I swear to Bejesus I really think THAT"S THE VERY SAME CAR! It looks like the car I remember. The seats, the wheels, the orange paint. Except for one thing it was super clean inside back when he put it together. But you add 20 years of grime and there you go. I grew up in Fullerton, so if that came from anywhere around SoCAL I really think that's it.
