What the hell kinda car company offers a hot new vehicle, but only in Cali, Texas, and all along the Eastern seaboard, and doesn't offer it to the rest of the country until 6 - 8 month later?

The Scions are not availbale in the central or Northwestern states until June 14 of this year as '05 models....

There were 2100 limited edition Hot Lava orange models made... You think any of the June 14th states has a shot in Hell of getting one?

You can get 3.9% financing on new autos right now. What kinda interest rate will be available in June? that's 10 weeks from now. Who knows what the future will bring?

The Xb to me was just like the Focus. I saw it, I test drove it, I fell in love with it, and I bought it.

Well, I saw it, I test drove it, I fell in love with it, but damned if I can buy it unless I wanna drive 1000 miles to Cali to get one. The dealerships aren't even able to take deposits on them yet....

ARE YOU LISTENING FORD? DON'T EVER MAKE THE SAME MISTAKE TOYOTA IS MAKING!!!! Offer it in different countrys at different times, but not different states! And why does Canada get the Echo hatchback and the US doesn't? All we can get that even comes close (for the price) is the Chevy Aveo....

STUPID TOYOTA!!!!

. Personally I cant wait for the TC to come. 200HP (with optional supercharger) + double wishbone suspension = hopefully fun!

But yeah living in the midwest sucks. I mean It's like we dont even exist. Mazda Rev It up tour completely go around us like a steaming pile of dung, I was hella surprise that the BMW ultimate tour is coming to Denver, and the Dodge 'Rev It Up' event in Denver was so small and discreet that I woulda never heard of it if my automotive teacher didnt told me.

So anyways about those Scions...man we had one of the base model XBs up for sell for $18,000 USED! Talk about a rip! And it sold in a week! I dont see why anyone would pay that much for a boxy Echo....

I agree, last time I drove by Burien Toyota (just a few blocks from where we have the monthly FociNW meetings and 5 or 10 minutes from Sea Tac Airport) they had at least a couple on the lot.

edit: I just checked their site, they have TWO xBs in but they're used. One has almost 10k on it and the other has all of 297 miles. I'm not sure if any local dealers have any truly new ones in stock.

PZEV was for emissions reasons in the states it was originally released in. The fact that it was an all around better motor was a nice benefit. If you want to be the first to get new technology, complain to your legislator to adopt California emissions, you’ll get the better motors to start with right away, but then you won’t be legally able to modify it.

As for Toyota there phasing in Scion in the markets that it will sell the most in first. There is a higher density of people on the costs, so 1 dealer has the possibility to serve more people, and being more cost effective.

1 thing that keeps people in the focus is the aftermarket. granted new car, but just how much could u squeeze outta that lil motor. i looked at a xA, but thought if i'm gonna go 2 the strip in this deal, i'd b lucky to run 16s.

EVERY Toyota dealer has 2 fleet vehicles, an Xa and an XB. They are not for sale until June 14.

If they are selling a scion before that date in the states it is used or they are going against Toyota mandate and if Toyota finds out are in jeopardy of their franchise.

That little 1.5L engine makes the same base hp as the 2.0L Zetec... 108 hp (ok, so it's at 6000 RPM, instead of about 4000, but it's still not that far away from a focus.) Granted, bigger displacement = more potential power also. My focus is a looker, not a racer... Same would be for the XB...

As for the aftermarket for the scion?

Take a look, it's the same engine as the Echo and there are already quite a few aftermarket parts available, not to mention alot from TRD which unlike FORD, warrantys their aftermarket parts. There are quite a few aftermarket parts available for a scion.

I know why Toyota did it, I just don't agree with it. I'm ready and willing to buy an XB right now, but because of Toyota, I cannot until June 14

The TC looks VERY enticing, I just don't like sedans... Now if they sold an XB with that engine

:D

Oh well, 2 more months to save up the down payment....

With the PZEV, sure it's due to emissions mandate as to which states/regions get them first.

It's also about marketing, because certain regions will call for a better demand and faster sales which helps to build a place for it within the marketplace/local culture.

As an another example, when BMW was going to launch the "M" version of the Z3, it was to be available that April, however the dealer here had at least four available February, or two months earlier than the scheduled date.

I've also seen test vehicles around here too. Around the late nineties, Mercedes was going to change the front and rear facias of their cars. So what do I see? A new car, black paint, with grey colored upper facias front & rear sporting the new headlamps and taillamps with certain other styling changes.

Regarding the Scions, the Xa and Xb have been out already for quite some time, at least in this region.

tc is a coupe buddy!!!!
I was about to bring this up in the sedan thread, though maybe someone has since the last time I read it, but the definition of a sedan isn't what a lot of people think . A coupe is a closed two seater - the tC is not a coupe, it is a sedan. I think the meaning of the term has been eroded by car companies who like to make cars seem sportier than they are, similar to the erosion of the meaning of the term "sports car".

Yea too bad the damn thing weighs 2900lbs!!

I don't understand how Toyota can make one of their tin cans weigh that much! Where does all the weight come from? Its like the MINI, why so heavy?

I'm not on the market for a car right now but if i were i would definitely be looking at a TC. Nice to see how they autocross, especially with that 200hp SC
