I have the same on my JRSC and found that it gave a real boost in power but also added a "ragged" edge to the sound. What's your experience with noise?
I ended putting an additional resonator on the MBRP cat-back which really smoothed it out-still loud but not painful to listen to!

WELL MY HKS EXHAUST WAS DEEP BEFORE BUT NOW IT IS WAY DEEPER AND WHEN I DRIVE THE CAR IN THE MROING AFTER WARMING IT UP IT BUZZES AFTER 4 THOUSAND RPM BUT AFTER IT WARMS UP IT IS VERY DEEP I LOVE IT!

I have a real noise problem with the Random Cat on an MBRP exhaust. We have tried different resonators. System creates droning trombone effect at 2500-3000 RPM cruising that is really a bother.

Is there a cure for this? Where would you add an additional resonator? The horn effect goes away at 3200 RPM but can't always drive there - 75mph.

Comments please.

yeah my JBA, Random Tech, and Borla Setup is pretty loud.....it does tend to drone at crusing speeds on the highway.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">All caps are harder for some people to read. Maybe you're not one of these people. There are a lot out there and it just shows consideration for other people if you don't use all caps. If you're one of those "It's all about ME" people then I guess you just won't get it.

Nordy,

Where did you add the extra resonator? Did it help with the drone at 2500-2900 rpm. What resonator did you use? I like the added HP but the noise is tough for me to live with.

Any other helpful hints.

I'm about to take it Random cat off and install the stock cat I still have.

The problem is the cat. Is there any way it could be modified?

This thread is not about Zetec Tuning.

It is KEYBOARD Tuning!

Artin, as I said before, get your cack off the caps key.

Arty, I went to an exhaust specialist who welded in an additional stainless steel resonator between the stock MBRP resonator and the muffler. They said they couldn't say for sure how much help the resonator would be until he actually welded it in place but he really knew his stuff because it sounds so much better. This didn't quiet the exhaust down much but it really cleaned up the annoying buzz and drone and made it pleasant to drive again. I have been thinking of replacing the muffler with a somewhat quieter one though-my truck is so much quieter and it's kind of nice sometimes to drive a quiet vechicle.
I also have a resonance at about 3000 rpm but have had that since I put the MBRP on. It is still there, even after putting on the JRSC, but now it's a sweet sound and not a drone. Anyone else have that resonance at 3K? What exhaust are you using? I don't know if it's a function of the exhaust system or of the Zetec engine in general.

I don't think there is a problem with the cat-it's just the combined effect of the two and how they affect the way exhaust gases are moving through the system. My exhaust guy said that custom exhaust systems and trouble shooting noise problems is kind of a "black art"-no one has shed light on it before and we are experimenting.
I really felt a difference with it when I put it on which is why I went to the extra expense and trouble of installing the additional resonator.

It's called ETIQUETTE.
In text, caps, as well as punctuation and bold-face, italics, etc, are all used to convey dynamics. (Since we can't gesture, or raise and lower our voices to make a point.)
All caps is like SHOUTING ALL THE TIME!!!!!!
People who shout in normal conversation are usually annoying to be around.
Please don't be the same way.
If everything is shouted, there are no dynamics.
When you type w/o punctuation, caps, etc, THAT makes it hard to read, and many people would rather just skip the post than try to sort through what you were trying to say.
Just some friendly advice. If EVERYONE is saying "Stop it with the caps", at what point can you take a hint???

Thanks Nordy for the explaination. Would you tell me where the extra Rez was installed. Was it in the straight section or the cross over after the turn? How big a Rez unit is it. Prbly not stainless.

The Random cat has this cone shaped chamber that may be amplifyng the resonance. The OEM cat also has the a large chamber ahead of the cat material but is quiet withn more restrictive materials.

For my piece of mind it was suggested that I reinstall the OEM cat. I hate to go backwarsd to get it quiet.

Arty, the extra stainless steel resonator I had welded on was installed in the straight section. It is about the same size as the one that came with the MBRP cat back. The whole deal cost about $200. I thought about removing the system, cutting the straight piece, and clamp connecting in place an additional muffler myself but went ahead with the new resonator on recommendation of the exhaust guy when he told me he had the equipment to weld SS. It would have worked doing it my self but I didn't like the thought of messing up the nice SS exhaust system. I agree about not wanting to go backwards just to stop the drone. Are there any speed shops or exhaust specialists near you?

That's amazing. The straight pipe section is 44" long. That whole pipe must be resonators. What would you think the noise reduction is like? Did it reduce the noise level at 2400-3000. I get a trumpeting resonance or horn effect going thru that range and then a drone at constant speed. I have an extra resonator I could try to play with.

I am trying a 12" insert pipe that restricts the tail piece to 1-3/4". It seems to have moved the trumpeting down to 2600 rpm and is quiet at 2900 and up.

Thanks for all your help.

The extra resonator does use up the straight section. What it did for me was more cleaning up the sound by greatly reducing the drone and eliminating what I call a "ragged" edge to the exhaust system sound than reducing the overall sound level, which it did somewhat. i still have that resonance at about 3000 rpm but I kind of like that, it's a sweet sound and sound good when passing hondas!
