JRSC + ECU update part 2 (updated 10/15)

678 Views 19 Replies 13 Participants Last post by  1mortoy
OK, who wants to hear the BS? After the re-flash, and the local dealer "smoking" my PCM, they sent the bad PCM in for evaluation. Reason for the loss of all info? The supposed removal of the DSI manifold.
The reason I have a CEL and constantly cycling DSI motor? New PCM's produced after June, 2003 allow NO modifications to the vehicle. Therefore, with the DSI cable not attached, the motor will cycle until it senses resistance, and assumes the cable is connected, and the CEL lights. According to the Service Manager at Courtesy Ford in Portland, OR., I am stuck with the CEL, and cycling DSI motor due to the install of the JRSC!
Personally, I think it is a crock of s*%#! Anybody have any suggestions or advice? I absolutely HATE the singer sewing machine sounds that emit from the DSI motor!

What about attaching the cable to a bungee cord, and then attch the cord to the body of the car, try different combinations until yo get it right!!

Sorry about your problems Jaybo, but hasn't Jackson been able to help you out at all???
Re: JRSC + ECU update part 2

You're not alone. Same happens to my car - but now it all makes sense: why that DSI motor never shuts up after the new ECU update w/JRSC installed. I am taking my SVT to my mechanic on Thursday to see if can make the DSI motor stop and CEL to go away along with it.
Re: JRSC + ECU update part 2

I had the DSI clip broken for about two weeks and the motor kept making that sound. Never had a CEL because of it and never had a CEL at any time come to think of it.

I sent the info to Keith at Jackson last night. We will see if there is any response.
Re: JRSC + ECU update part 2

Jay . . . we've recently been made aware of the 'cycling' which can (and often does) occur as a result of leaving the DSI switching valve on once the stock manifold has been removed. R & D has created a device to install in the switching valve which disables it and, in effect, turns it off. This stops the actuator valve from 'rattling' while it is still plugged in and prevents a '"check engine" light from illuminating. This will contend with the 'sewing machine' noises completely. I have no clue as to whether
the disengagement of that valve has any effect on the main computer of the car, but the parts being manufactured to correct this situation are going to be ready to ship to all of the customers who have installed the Focus SVT charger kits to date. As far as the ' re-flash ' that is something I know absolutely nothing about. It is generally said that the factory ECU should be left alone and not altered. The ' check engine ' light will remain on as long as the switching valve is plugged in and left in the
operating mode. If you simply unplug the valve, the 'check engine' light will still be on, but the noise will stop because the valve will cease to function...for the moment.
I will make sure you are on the list of charger owners who are supposed to receive the new part and, once it's in inventory, I'll be sure one ships out to you. I may need
to have you furnish ship-to info for this. The parts are due to arrive by the first week of November. Thanks for sharing this information with me. I think the CEL being
' on ' is only going to change after this new charger kit component is installed. I do not believe there's any harm being done by merely having the CEL on and the
manifold valve clicking away...... however annoying it might be. Once the new part is installed, this entire problem will go away for good. Thanks again, Jay. K T

Hi Keith,

Here is the latest [censored] from Ford on my SVT! I'll tell you more of the story if you are interested! This is what I posted on Focal- Jet.

BIG THANK YOU TO KEITH AND THE CREW AT JACKSON RACING!!!!!

Re: JRSC + ECU update part 2

I want to unplug the DSI motor power connector (If there is such a thing) to stop the cycling as well as prevent it from burning out till the JRSC fix arrive. I found something that might be a DSI motor - just underneath the battery but can someone post the picture to be sure!!!

Thanks
Re: JRSC + ECU update part 2

Jaybo: Keith says thanks for the party hat.
It's nice to see someone not bashing Jackson. After all they are the only S/C currently available.

Re: JRSC + ECU update part 2

Hey guys. How do they know where the people live that bought their product? I bought mine from Summit. So, I am guessing they will use the warrantee card that came with the kit that you fill out and send in when the s/c is installed.

It's not the people with the JRSC that bash it, its the ones that don't have it.

Keep in mind while the CEL is lit, your timing gets advanced (or is it retarded?) something like 16* (Belacyrf might know the exact amount), and therefore you'll loose significant power. So for those of you driving around with your CEL's lit, once you get this new piece and get that thing shut off, you should be in for a pretty good surprise at an increase in power.

Nice to hear about JR taking care of their clients... as they always seem to do.

That can't be true. I don't feel a different between CEL and no CEL when I 'reset' the ECU. I thought getting the ORP would trigger a CEL if you didn't get the optional O2 cheater. So if you don't get a 'cheater' you loose power??? Something doesn't seem right there.
Re: JRSC + ECU update part 2

So this means that the fix will be sent to all those who bought the JRSC Kit.... or do we have to contact them and have them send us the fix. Thanks

Just talked to JR. Jim said that they will be sending out the fix to customers that bought directly from JR. Also, they will be sending the fix to the distributors (wherever you got your s/c from) who shoud be forwarding them to the customers that bought the s/c. I am calling Summit right now to make sure they try and keep a heads up. I have a feeling I will have a hard time getting a hold of this thing.

Well, I talked to Fitz at Summit...great service he gave me....I explained the whole situation. He was very interested, and sounded kind of sorry to hear he was going to have to ship out a bunch of these things to all the SVT JRSC owners that bought through Summit. So, I know now that Summit is aware. In fact Fitz is calling right now to confirm all the info with JR. So, when the stuff is ready to ship out I, or any one that ordered through Summit shouldnt have a problem getting the fix.
Re: JRSC + ECU update part 2

DSI=Dual Stage Intake
Which means it switches between a short runner and long runner for better airflow efficiency and power.I hope this helps some.
Re: JRSC + ECU update part 2

DSI cable switches the runners in your intake manifold. Your intake manifold is a Dual Stage Intake (DSI). It is dual stage to improve low end, and top end power as well. The two parts to the intake are short runners, and long runners. Your runners are the things that carry air from your induction to inside the engine to be mixed with gas. When you start your car the dsi cable is pulled forward putting the runners in the long position, they stay in the long position until you reach 6K. Being in the long postition gives the air more time to speed up, and the faster the air is getting in the faster you are mixing fuel and air, which is good for power. Now when the runners switch to the short position at 6K (some say 5K with the new program) the air is already moving pretty fast as you can imagine at 6K rpms, so the short runners let the already fast moving air into the engine even quicker since the air wont be going through the longer runners. For the install all you have to do is take the cable off, and zip tie it to a fixed point (thats what svtmofo did with mine). Also, you have to remove the whole dsi. Go to jacksonracing.com and you can download the instructions and read them over. There is a pick of the dsi cable floating around if some one doesnt post it, I will edit this post and add the link to the post.
http://www.focaljet.com/ubbthreads/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=UBB36&Number=768995&page=3&view=collapsed&sb=5&o=&fpart=1
the pick in the thread actually has nothing to do with the question being asked, but any way that is the dsi cable where it meets the intake mani.
