Just got esslinger intake cam installed and......

It runs like a beast!!! It will snap your neck on those hard shifts. It pulls HARD all the way up to the rev limiter. I need achip so I can stay in the powerband. I highly reccomend it. I am running -2intakeand -4 exhaust on the gears.

not any major loss of low end torque. It really wakes up after 2500 rpms. The install was a piece of cake took about 1.25 hrs and half of that was getting the timing belt on. What a pita! The cost was 249 or 269 for the cam and 79 for the lash caps. The optinum setting will vary car to car depending on mods and such. I just used a gtech to measure my hp and i lsft it on -2int,-4exh. wow, cool, thats my next mod them. Under $350 for that much power is hard to beat. I really need some more high end, i gotta go get my car dynoed after i get it though. my cam gears are set at -3/-6 and it runs cool, but i dont know if thats the best setting or not for power for my car. After i get the cam and header i will get it dyno-tuned!!!

i started with them at 0,0 and the tested various setting then put them at -2,-4 and this produced the best # from the gtech.

Why are you guys retarding your intake cam? Who told you to do that? I've personally never heard of anyone doing that to any car. I have mine set at +1 intake and -7 (probably too much) exhaust. Just asking...I'm not calling you stupid or anything. Just trying to understand the logic.

Thats just what info i gather on the jet. the gtech says it produces the most hp so ill stick with it i guess but i didnt try your set up of +1,-7 ill try it and see

It is our experience that the ZETEC engine
likes to have both gears retarded. Adjusting
both gears the same direction changes the
total adv. or ret. cam timing. Changing one
more than the other spreads the lobe centers,
effectively raising the top end, while still
cutting down on overlap. Less overlap helps
the idle but hurts the intake tuning untill
higher RPM's. We have some engines with
~6deg. ret. on the intake and ~20 on the
exhaust, just depends on the mods.

Im not sure what grind it is but i got it from focusparts.com. Im still trying out different setting cause it bogs a little sometimes off of the jump

On your guys cam gears each notch is 2 degrees right? ANd i can really hurt anything by adjusting either gear to the maximum retard right?

so what did your gtech say with all those mods for HP? I also need a header badly, all these mods i have going through the stock header... i hope it helps. I am waiting only because i heard someone else is gonna make a long tube with cat for a good price. i hope it wont be long, i dont really wonna get the shortie header, doesnt look as cool and doesnt add that much power. What did hte gtech say man? THANX
