Rather than just say this guy is wrong, I will go into why he is wrong, just slightly anyway....
First of all, this "report" or "paper" or whatever it was, is very biased. I think if you actually looked at the numbers, you would see that imports aren't dominate in the US market, and that the aftermarket parts for mustangs aren't limited. Just because mustang owners, unlike most civic owners, don't want to bolt-on a park bench to their trunk and call it a spoiler does not mean that aftermarket parts aren't limited for the mustang. How about parts that actually do help performance in the conditons that the car are run? Sure, Nascar does a lot of research on aerodynamics and spoilers, but they are going what? 200 mph? 300 mph? when you are crusing around and doing at max 100, a spoiler will help very little.
Ahem, sorry had to get that out of my system, moving on....
Second, this report was two years old, and obviously the Focus has become much more dominate. I swear I see as many, if not more, focuses than Hondas, and in my opinion that is a good thing.
And the whole part about body type options and what not? Please! The civic has what, 3 different body styles? The Focus has at least 4.
And last but not least, maybe this guy hasn't heard of a company called "GM"? I don't know about GM's and Ford's numbers, but GM has to be up their too. Maybe this guy was trying to narrow the scope of his report, but by doing so made his so called "analysis" very weak.
