Mazda has now officially opened the new engine plant at Hiroshima, where up to 425,000 a year of the company's new mid-sized engines will be produced. The engines built will be either 1.8 litres, 2.0 litres or 2.2 litres. Output should commence in March 2002, and Ford is expected to take some of the supply.

The big news is the anouncement of the new 2.2 liter version.

expect more info in the future on the new 2.2.

Ford is so slow with it's updates, it takes so long to get that damn Duratec (2004/5!?)
As you can see the excitment is not there anymore,(it use to be there couple months ago) not too many posts intrested in it anymore. It just takes too damn long.
Ford will get it out when competition will already be better. Are you still so excited about it?

I am still excited about it. you have no idea how great the engine is, when it arrives here the competion will have caught up. Exp: the new camry's I4 is almost as good as the Duratec HE. 33Mpg from a camry.

when the mazda variants arrive you will see people come around.

I dunno about you, but when a Camry that is much larger than a Focus gets better gas mileage.. I want to puke. It makes me want to hold off on my purchase of a new Focus and possibly either buy a used one or another POS that will get me through 2yrs before dying. If Ford wants to boost sales, then the best marketing strategy I can see for them is "ooh.. our car gets better gas mileage and has more hp than our competitors." Not any of this +3hp over a Civic that happens to get 9mpg more than our vehicle does.

Sorry for the rant, wish Ford would listen to the enthusiasts for once (cough SVT delays?).

I know that some times long waiting can make things taste better, but I don't want to starve to death with my crappy Zzzetec while waiting for the "gracious saviour" Duratec!
My 18 mpg is almost as "good" as my Dad's ML430 (V8/270hp)!

I still care. I get 32 mpg hwy from my 1984 Mustang SVO with 260 hp (and more to come) and weighs 3100 lbs. Why would I want to buy a 130 hp Focus that gets no better mpg? I'm waiting for the Duratec HE. If my wife's car dies before it arrives in the Focus, I'll get some other car.
