MINIs -

Am I the only person on earth that hates these cars? Every review and comment I've read regarding MINIs has been glowing. I mean, they can be fun to drive, but that's it. They have no other purpouse since they're so small. I absolutly hate these cars (If they're your cup of tea that's cool, I just hate them), everytime I see one it makes me angry.

I worked at a BMW dealership for a time and let me tell you, they have their share of problems. I've seen numerous examples with blown engines, cracked blocks, cracked valves, bad supercharger bearings, creaky interiors and blown transmissions. They look queer too. Why would anyone buy one?

So, am I the only one?

It's too impractical for me as a daily driver. They look like they could be fun track cars though. I think a well modified one looks quite well.

I wouldn't buy one though based on the persistent problems my two friends have had with theirs. Both are literally at the dealership all the time for repairs. MINI does all the work for free, quickly too, and give you a rental car, but still not worth it for me.

But to each his own as with anything else.

I'd kill for a Mini S w/ some JCW parts...

But why would you kill for one? They look so bad (in my opinion). Plus, with the JCW kit, IIRC, the price balloons to over $30K. That's some pretty rare air.

BTW, is the gold bricks thing a refrence to Austin Powers III? If not, I'm retarted!

I am still thinking about getting a Mini. I have loved them since they first came out. I have driven a regular Cooper and it was fun. I like the way they look, and I think it's a fun little car. It isn't a practical car, but who cares? That's not why you buy one. I am debating between a Mini or a Z right now, both which are impractical to daily driving, but I don't care...the one person ever in the car is me and I have nothing to haul/carry around.

It's all about personal preference... If your going to comment on how small a Mini's interior is, have you looked at other cars? The Mini interior can't be any bigger than a Z, or Ford GT, Vette, etc. If you think about it, all sports cars (I'm NOT saying a Mini is a sports car, by ANY means) are impractical, simply because they have no room, but that is also what makes them more fun to drive. It's just you and the road, not 3 screaming kids and a wife in the car to distract you :).

I feel the same way about hippies.

However, I like the Minis. Very stylish. :) Unfortunately, I agree with the others in that they are overpriced. I think (purposefully) low production is to blame when compared to similar cars. Bang for the buck is always a big factor for me. A great car thats $3000 over what I think it should be becomes a car I won't buy. :(

They have no other purpose since they're so small? Psssh. The day that I get an MCS, I am doing the backseat delete. Plenty of cargo space and I rarely if ever need to have more than 1 passenger in my car so it's all good.

Looks are purely subjective- you drive a Focus for god sakes, how many people made fun of YOUR car since you've had it.

If anything I can thank the heavens above that someone out there decided that us fat Americans would appreciate a tiny, premium hatchback. I can't afford it at this moment but doggone it it's good to know it's there for when I CAN.

I personally love them. They might be impractical, but what are your needs? That's the whole thing, everyone has different needs for a car. You have a large family to cart around, sure, a MINI would be impractical. But if it's just you driving, and you rarely haul stuff, why not? I dig them. They are on the top of my list for my next car, that's for sure. Might not be the fastest car out there, but I definitely had a blast driving it when I took one for a test drive.

"It's a stereo that can blow women's clothes off."

Fun, but the original was better. I guess that makes it a lot like the car.

handling-wise, how does a focus compare with a mini? way worse, slightly worse, about the same, slightly better, or way better?

one mini owner i know says the focus handles kind of similar but the mini's interior is much nicer. anyone else have the dual experience?

Any of them having trouble with their differential?

Wow...I am suprised to see so many people say it is impractical. I think it is a very practical car...and people who have the opposite view are the reason that America consumes more gasoline that any other country in the world.

Personally, I consider some single dude in a lifted H2 on chrome rims with 36" mud tires impractical...and teenage kids in BMW's, lifted F150's, mom's with 2 kids in an Excursion 4x4.

Getting a Mini is pretty damned practical in my opinion. They're great on mileage, and they have great warranties. I'm not saying that they are practical for EVERYBODY...if you have a few ankle biters it's not, or if you regularaly tow things. I know some people don't like the looks of it, but I hope to see more cars like the Mini (minus a few grand) and the Focus (and smaller) that have some decent power come out in the near future.

As compared to? The focus? For the price, yes...but they are pretty quick little cars, especially the S version.

The US contains 4% of the world's population but produces about 25% of all carbon dioxide emissions. The US also uses more oil than Europe, Russia and China put together, yet is the richest country in the world easily able to use alternative fuel sources.

I think most people be they 'American', 'European' or any other race would always take a bigger S.U.V over an economy car as humans, by nature are arrogant and selfish people on the whole who are designed to put themselves first just to exist on this planet as it's human nature to do this.

Problem is we weren't driving around in vehicles millions of years ago! LOL.

Unless Governments tax people out of their big cars a 'MINI' is always going to look a step down to someone in an S.U.V with the attitude of 'me first' rather than environment and our future existence on this planet first. American or not.

The only reason Americans do it the most, is the conditions arise for this to happen.

Its because we are the richest (or at least living like it) that we polute so much, not inspite of it. ;) Currently seven out of every one thousand people in China own a car. 940 out of 1000 own a car in the US. Thats just cars, factor in lighting, computers, etc... we're big spenders because we can afford to be. Look at the consumption of the little island country of Japan for example.

Want to use taxation to provide incentive for people to consume less? Instead of giving you money to have kids, charge tax for every child after the second. A smaller population can "live it large" while polluting less. :p

OK, back to Mini discussion. *slaps own hand for being drawn in*

Personally, I love them. I was drawn in by the styling at first, but as soon as I drove one, I was hooked. Everything was right where it should be, the interior had much more space than I figured, and the power (in the S) was great, especially coming from my ATX focus to it. I am seriously looking at a year old used mini as my next vehicle, probably next year.

A regular Mini is like 17k. Our regular Mini is amazing compared to our crappy HHR my mom payed 22k for...

Find me a better, stock car for the same price. I can gurantee it won't be a focus unless it has 1k in suspension stuff on it.
