Cadillac Keeps Getting Faster

-From the August 2004 Car and Driver Magazine

Like a beneficial bacterium, Cadillac's high-performance V-series treatment is spreading across its entire model line. The recently introduced STS sedan and the two-seat XLR will both get more power and chassis enhancements to go with their V-series badges.
Image
The STS-V and XLR-V will get superchargers bolted to their DOHC 4.6-liter Northstar V-8 engines, a setup that should be worth at least 400 horsepower. To accommodate the blower, the XLR will get a new hood, and both cars will have bigger brakes, wheels, and tires. Meanwhile, the CTS-V is expected to be available in two editions-hot and torrid, the latter propelled by a 6.0-liter LS2 small-block V-8 borrowed from the C6 Corvette. Our spyshot shows the expanded fender flares, bigger w heels, and wider rubber required to handle the expected 500-hp package. All the new hot-rod Caddys are due late next year.
---I wish I could post the picture they have, but my online photo hosting place (Photo Bucket) isn't working; so no go.

GM + V8 = no gas mileage. but i cant wait to see the pics
Actually, GM V8s get rather good milage for being a V8. I've heard of Vette owners getting 20+ MPG...

Now, I know Ford V8s aren't the best for GREAT milage either, but I know that they are much better than Dodge... 5.9L Magnum V8 = 12MPG city.

My father in law has an 02 Vette Vert, with the 6 speed. It gets 29mpg on the highway. The CTS-V is rated for 25mpg on the highway. When you have tons of torque, you can have a crazy 6th gear and get better gas mileage than one would think.

Nice, finally someone found some pictures to put them up. I still can't get my photo thing to work...

I can't wait to see these badboys out on the street! Looks like the Germans might finally have some American competition work paying some attention to.

The Z06 Vette actually is rated as having better fuel economy than the regular vette. I am sure it is in the transmission gearing.

Regardless, I think if you are buying a 400--500 HP sports sedan/coupe, fuel economy is not your primary concern.
The LS6 in the Z06 runs on 4 cylinders at cruising speeds. 30+ mpg is not unheard of. I agree with the others, in terms of mileage, I don't know that you can beat a Chevy V8.

Interesting. Maybe they had originally planned it for the LS6 and it never came to fruition. Thanks.

Edit: Looks like it was supposed to be on the Z06 but was scrapped because of a negative reaction because of the 80s disasterous attempt at it.

The LS2 (new 6.0L) will feature DoD.
