Ok guys, pretty good news. First off, its the best damn mod for the buck, seriously. What, $17? Awesome deal you get for what it does.

Install took me a total of about 25 minutes, simple as hell. Take 3 bolts out, take bracket off. Take main bolt out of the mount and pull it out. Now you have the mount that holds the 2 bushings. The big one comes out fairly easy, a press would be nice but just hammer it out, simple. The smaller one i just drilled a few holes through it and it fell out, even better. The new ones go in even easier, take the metal piece out of the middle, put the bushing in, slide metal piece back in. Put it all back together, very simple

Performance: Foci should come with these stock. Even with my esslinger intake cam, mild, still, the vibration is minimal, and i think on a stock focus, there would be none. Either my old bushings were shot, or these things are amazing. Taking off in first gear normal driving, doesnt feel like the car is gonna bog. I think that is a big part of the bog issue, when the engine moved around before the car moved. This way, it just jumps, its awesome. Wheel hop i would say is about 60% better, none in 1st, a bit in second, but the big THUMP is gone, its just a mild skip, and only sometimes, so i am VERY VERY HAPPY> 2-3 shift doesnt feel slopy any more, you can totally feel it when you shift hard, it throws you back more, and i can now chirp 3rd, so i think that before on my 2-3 shift, the engine moved around alot instead of putting power to the tire, its awesome.

I knew that they were gonna work when i took the stock ones out. You can move the whole damn engine around like 6" in each direction without the bracket on, these 2 bushings pretty much control most engine movement, seriously, install them and see what i mean. Plus the stock ones, not only crappy rubber, but they arent solid, there are spaced in between them to let them flex even more.

OVERALL> 11/10, simply because for $17, it makes a HUGE difference in driving your car, especially if you drive it a bit hard

hmmm....

iceman intake
FC TB
esslinger intake cam
3 piece pulley set
FS street header
random tech cat
FS flexpipe
bosal exhuast
Diablo chip

pretty much all the bolt ons and run 15.1's before the chip, pulleys, flexpipe

Its not always a chirp, but when i wind it out to 7100rpm and shift quick enough, its a slight chirp, simply because instead of jerkin the engine around, the power goes to the wheels

i can see this motor mount mod actually improving my times, seeing as to how ugly my wheelhop and engine torque was

But 2nd gear lets out a nice squealch of the tires

Great mod for any focus

nazthug - where did you get the Energy Suspension bushings?

Do you have a part number for me? I just ordered the transmission mount and rear dogbone from Ford UK Racing, but they don't have the passenger side motor mount. This one sounds like just what I need.

Thanks,

Is it the mount under the airbox? or the mount over by the cam gears? Sounds good, you make it sound so simple, good job

Tom,

I faxed off an order last night, and haven't heard back from my friend in England on price. Give me a day or two to get in touch with him, and I'll verify that what I have is accurate. I'll post a response with PN and prices then.

The stock motor mounts in the Focus allow the engine to move around too much. In rallying, the amount of engine movement is enough to rip the bushings apart completely, and both bushing and metal mount failures are common. The racing mounts either increase the stiffness of the bushing material, or eliminate the bushings entirely and create a solid mount (be ready for some SERIOUS noise and vibrations in that case!).

There are a lot of threads I've seen on the benefits of upgraded motor mounts, including better off-the-line response, more positive feeling on shifts, and elimination of wheel hop. (something I don't have to worry about in my Production Focus - especially on dirt

I guess I don't drive "hard".

I don't experience any of these things with my stock mounts. I had these bushings in for a couple of weeks and absolutely hated them. I changed them back to stock and was much happier with the car. Mine were incredibly noisy.

Huh, I know this part is marketed as a "motor mount". But its actually an Engine Roll Restrictor. Thats a goofy name for what appears to be a motor/tranny mount.
Can be confirmed here on your Ford Service Manual:
«2001 Focus Table of Contents»
«Group 3: Powertrain»
«Section 308-03B: MANUAL TRANSAXLE ? MTX75»
«REMOVAL»
Step 13

Of course, that won't stop me from getting one

your bushings were noisy? How is that? What do you mean noisy? Oh, and the stock ones, at least on my car were crap. It drives a million times better. Just regular acceleration out of 1st gear, instead of bogging at low rpm and feling like the car is gonna die, it just sort of jumps forward, puts the power down alot faster in my opinion. Also, without these, my engine used to move ALOT more than it does now, when i rev it by hand on the TB, it stays put, unlike before. Plus my 1-2shifts have reduced dramatically in wheel hop. So thats my story, im keeping mine for $17 thank you very much

i could chirp 3rd with my focus stock, not always but if i really tried i could.
just like to add that im gonna buy that mount, for $17 what do i have to lose. i always like the cheap mods.

I sent somebody wrong instructions for this...

I remembered only 2 bolts? Oh well. Guess its 3. It has been awhile since I did mine. Very easy though.

Also the last important word on this mod that I heard from Energy Suspension was to not add grease to this mount. Reason is because under extreme racing environment the grease made a couple of early produced bushings slip out some. Not sure if the newer produced bushings are better. I have had no problems with mine and I put the grease on them

i really dont know how the hell you chirp 3rd, do you mean 2nd???? I couldnt even chirp 2nd in my stock focus...it sounds almost impossible with your setup. Lets say even if you had the GOOD engine setup, you might be making 110whp. Hell, my car is making over 130whp and i CAN'T chirp 3rd 99.8% of the time. How do you manage to chirp 3rd? Granted i never do a power shift, but even then it never happens. SO im not gonna rate power by chirping any more. I dont care. I ran 15.1

Try that in a stock focus

i didnt grease em but i sprayed a bit of wd40 in there to make em go in easier, thinking it was gonna be hard, but it wasnt, do you think that was bad?

is there a part number to go by? so there are no mix ups when ordering? like a number on the box?

Yes, noisy. They transferred a whole bunch more noise into the passenger compartment. Additionally, in reverse, the bushings would push out of the bracket, causing the bracket to bottom out against the frame, REALLY causing a noise problem. I do not have a wheel hop problem on my car with the stock mounts. I also doubt that an engine mount can cure a "bog" condition. I had these mounts in for a month and they did not improve my quarter miles times at all so the theory that they put the "power down better" is a falacy. I switched back to stock and I was happier.

I powershift every gear at the track and the engine doesn't bounce around on the mounts. I must have a good one.

When my zx3 was new I could get a chirp out of 2nd easily and 3rd occassionally. Now, with 6000 miles all I get on a hard shift to 2nd is a big clunk like Casper described in his post. I am assuming the clunk is the result of wheel hop due to loosing of the motor mounts and suspension components. Sounds like hell. If these bushing help then I'll get them. Will these cure my problem?

Dude I can gleefully bark into third with my AF/X udp, ITG Drop-in, and plug wires. It's not hard.

#26 ·
HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW? HOw the hell do you people chirp 3rd gear with 110whp??????????? What the hell am i missing? So youre chirping at like 50mph or something? I dont see how. I would hve to say, under normal driving conditions, i CANT chirp 3rd even with my mods and all. Maybe my tires are just stickier than yours or something, or maybe my clutch isnt hooking up as well. But i dont see how. If youre chirping third, do you spin in 2nd? Again, i am not judging power by chirping any more? I bet you stil only chirp into second too though huh? Its probably just the way you shift or something.

Oh well, it doesnt matter. Im happy im not chirpin, means im hookin up better, thats it. Cause i know for a fact im making more power than a stock car, or lightly modded that you guys are saying are chirping, so im happy that it doesnt chirp. Going back to the track when it stops raining to see if i can get some nice 14's slips.
