My Focus On-Track Vid

I was at Waterford Hills RoadRace Course 2 weeks ago for a trackday, and used my new all-digital video camera to record the action. I put together this little vid with some "highlights"

Watch through to the end, because there's a surprise there.

The song is something I've heard on Sirius, but not on the radio. Don't know why... it's awesome.

911 (Carrera?)
WHRRI Spec Neon race car

I don't know how much the Putfile servers can take. I guess we'll find out.

Not really a beater Neon, that's a Spec Neon race car. On Hoosiers.

He was running 1:20's I think. I had a best of 1:23.9, but by that point in the day had slowed it down to 1:26's to save my tires from cording the front outside shoulders. NEED camber. Badly.

That was a really tight pass. But the Neon was riding me really really close and I didn't want to spend a whole other lap with him behind me.

NIce looking track and drivers, it looks very technical and tight. I bet a good prepared Focus would do just fine there.

Unfortunately my car makes WAY too much hp with the current suspension, I'd need to pony up some big dollars to make it work well... OH well,

That Neon wasn't going as fast as it appeared. Remember, I "threw away" that corner completely to let him pass, so he had a lot of momentum coming out.

Also, that Z06 might have been going less than 10/10ths, because he backed it into the swamp earlier in the day.

I came flying around swamp turn, and WOAH there he was, nose sticking on the track with no visibility or warning. Luckily it was closer to the corner exit than the apex.

Waterford is very technical, very unforgiving, but VERY fun for a car like the Focus. It's kinda like running "tail of the dragon" with no oncoming traffic or speed limits.

At first I was very intimidated by it. Now it's one of my favorite tracks.

Great video!

No disrespect meant at all because I really liked both the car and the driving but is your Focus that good or are the other drivers that bad. Seems like everyone played nice and let you around when they noticed they couldn't loose you. It was nice to see you driving around the Vette and the Porche. I was surprise to see the Neon fly by.

Bunch of reason:

1: I have over an hour of footage, and I only clipped the laps where I was right behind somebody and passed them. It's more interesting for the average person. And it's a bit of a cheerleading video, admittedly. However, I was only passed twice the whole day. Once by the Birkin, who I repassed 2 laps later on the video. And then the Neon.

2: I'm a pretty decent driver. You can't see it well, but I kiss the apexes and curbing. Some of the other drivers were not. But I was not a maniac terrorizing the beginner group, either. This was the second fastest group. The fastest group was all race drivers and race cars.

3: The Focus is a VERY easy car to drive fast, very forgiving. My PSS9 suspension is understeery, so the car is easy to drive, but with decent stick. I can really throw it around that track with confidence. The car also has good power, great torque, and power delivery with the Quaife. It's a very capable car, and very reliable. Nothing ever blows up or breaks, so you can just *drive*.

read that after i saw the vid and now it all makes sense. while i was watching i couldnt believe how sloppy his line was. the porsche looked nice though, had a good run down the hill and out of that chicane.

definitely a tight track which really puts our cars on level with some true sportscars. aside from that back straight, our cars can easily compete on that course. looks like loads of fun, great vid.

What do you use for a camera mount?

Going to do some ice racing this winter and would like to film some to put up here on the jet.
