Currently I am running H&R sport springs with KYB AGX dampers and a Progress 22mm RSB. I am having issues with scraping and want to move to a stiffer spring. I am leaning toward a linear spring this time. The H&R sport springs are only listed as progressive in the FJ spring rate chart and I have not been able to find any info on the spring rates elsewhere.

I need assistance from someone who has experience with the H&R sport springs and many of the other springs on the market that can give me a solid estimate on the rate of the H&R spring and make suggestions on a spring that is known to be stiffer. All of the other foci I have ridden in have been mostly stock, have coilovers, or very agressive drops. I have no first hand experience with other mild drop springs.

I want to keep the drop to 1.5'' (I think even the progress 1.8 may be too low). I can't really go any lower than 1.5'' in the front or I will run into issues with my driveway and some of the obstacles I have to deal with daily.

Thanks!

The FRPP springs have a mild drop and higher rates. The newer version of the springs are a bit lower than the previous ones. Call up Leo Capaldi and he could probably help you out.

I don't think you need stiffer springs you need more ride height if your scraping. They don't make roads for people that like the lowered look thats for sure I'm running the progress springs handle like a dream but I bottom out on some speed bumps.

Not true. The H&R springs are only a 1.4'' front and 1.3'' rear drop. My car is on stock 16'' tire size. The front lip on my car is not agressive as it is just a stock euro front piece on a stock euro front bumper. This setup scrapes less than the stock setup did. It only scrapes on dips at speed because of the soft spring. Thanks for the input on the progress springs but there is a reason why I am asking for responses from people who were intimately familiar with the H&R springs. I simply want to know the estimated rate of the H&R Sport spring so that I can choose a replacement that I know for a fact is stiffer.

P.S.- I am scraping the lip of the bumper and not bottoming out.

Here is a picture of the car in question courtesy of a stolen link from Pimptastic's FOTB pic thread.

Here's the info on the Spec Focus springs. I have never scraped my front bumper on anything (I'm pretty careful near curbs). While the springs are stiff, my H&R Race springs are much lower than your sport springs. I have hit the bump stops a few times though.

Thanks Joseph,

I just hate that my headlights look gray in most of the FOTB pictures when they are in fact very dark black(same color as the lower grille). I guess that's just how satin black looks through the lens in the sun.:(

Man, it really sucks that you can't get APEX springs anymore, because I'm getting really tired of recommending a spring that you can't buy new anymore....

The APEX 1.6" drop springs would be perfect for you, IMO.

Agreed.
Someone should fill that niche.
:)

I talked with progress suspension at SEMA. They would be willing to do a limited run of anything. If you all could convince a sponsor (CFM, etc) I would be willing to bet progress would make a 1.6" drop spring with similar rates to the APEX setup. And I believe they said they could do the limited run in any color. This is of no interest to me, but you all could be proactive if you so choose.

If you're interested, I'm selling a barely used set of the newer Spec Focus Springs. The ones with the 1.5 inch drop and progressive rates (unfortunetly in this case). With these springs your rear would sit much higher, about an inch.

They have less than 5,000 miles and look almost brand new.

Asking $100+shipping (should be cheap if your in CA)

I used them with Koni Sports. I'm selling them because I prefer my older Vogtland setup. It was more tail happy. They're great springs and they do soak up the bumps. But they do understeer at the limit.

That all might change when paired with the FRPP dampers however.

Also you want to be sure that the rubbing sound isnt a scrapping wheel bearing.

Sounds Good. Springs don't "Go Bad" unless they've been exposed to stuff like extreme road salt or they were crap to begin with. Those Should be As good as New except for any scratches which nobody would ever see...
The dampers may help, but If they really DO Understeer, I'd look to go up on the Rear Swaybar as a Fix.
:)
