Need to bum a ride to VIR.

Who near me is going to VIR, and could I hitch a lift? I know EFF is not too far (4 hours drive) but I think he's taking his pickup, and I think his wife/gfriend is going, so no room.

Anybody from Detroit going?

I'd love to go, and at the least hang out and maybe instruct.

If you guys did want to help pay for my entry, I had a crazy idea the other day.

Hertz

Full Damage Waiver

I could rent, a Focus say, and have fun with that. I'd be a little slow, cause it would be an automatic SPI, with no rear swaybar. Of course, that could be fixed, I could just bring one down, I believe they bolt right up. I could even bring R-compounds if there was room.

Just a crazy thought.

First things first. How can I get down there?

It's not a crazy idea........I've been entertaining the thoughts of a plain ticket, an SPI rental, and explaining a rear sway bar to airport security personel since the VIR date was settled.

I've got a stock rear bar, complete with stock endlinks and bushings that I could bring with me. All you'd have to bring would be the mounting brackets and bolts.

I'd just unbolt my Eibach rear from my car and bring the whole thing. I could bring my Toyo's too if I had room.

Just need a ride...

Rob, are you too young to know about the good old days when the Shelby GT350 Mustang was available for rent at Hertz? They were GT350H cars, available in special black and gold paint. People used to rent them, race them, and then take them back to Hertz on Monday. Or at the very least, they'd race their Mustang after yanking a Hertz engine out, putting in in theirs, and then putting them back when done.

Hee hee...
BTW, I too am too young to have done this, but I heard the stories from those who were not.

Also, at one of the Solos here in DTW, one kid was running the bejeezus out of a beater Sentra. By the time he was done, it was smoking continuously. We told him, "Dude, you're smoking like crazy." He replied, "It's a rental from Metro Airport - it's going back in a couple hours."

We laughed like hell.

WE never did it, but our AutoX site used to share a parking lot with the Enterprise Car Rental Shop. 4 cyl Celicas and Neons- all automatics....thought about it, though.
Decided it would be too obvious, as they could see us from their office.

Story on the Hertz cars was, several came back with funny metal circles welded under the carpet....from sawed off roll bars.

I did it about six years ago, the one and only time I've been to Gingerman (until this Saturday).

I rented a 4cy auto Contour from Hertz when my Mustang was in bit's. I pumped up the tires to about 4540 F/R and had a hell of a good time, Suprcharged full Griggs Mustang and a GT40 replicar waved me by more than once. The only damage was to me not the car when I leaned in to grab my helmet and nearly poked my eye out on the door frame.

I say do it, but don't bother with the rear bar, don't forget the SPI's have a smaller front bar and the balance would be way out of wack with a rear bar.

I don't know about that. I've seen some HS (solo2) guys switch out the front bar for the SPI bar and leave in the stock rear bar. And it seemed to work pretty well for them.

Yeah, but I'm talking SPI front bar, with EIBACH rear bar!

Argh argh argh!!!

Where's the real evil smily gone?

I bet the combination would cause enough stress to fracture the rear control arms for sure!

Murph, I have told you once, and I will tell you again:
Show up and you can drive my car, NQA. As long as you can run in a different group and not take my track time, it's all good.

Of course, if you were feeling crazy, you could UPS your r-compounds to my house and we could once and for all settle the "how fast are Falkens compared to Toyos" question.
