Audi and VW both wrap them in a blanket like that. It is a paint protection thing. Kind of a pain in the ass to PDI them like that but it keeps them relatively clean.

Usually they only have clear on the front and back windows now on most of them. The stuff on the drivers door has a zipper so they can see to back off the truck.I see them all the time on I-90 like that, it's not just the A3, the thing I don't get is some of them have clear plastic where the windows go and some don't.
