New car time? (Charlie wants a Bunny)

I've loved my Focus since I bought it, and still do...but my '05 is about to crack 90k, so it's probably getting near time to start thinking about a new car. I've been jonesing for the C30 for a while now. I was and still am head over heels for the car, but the more I think about it, it's just not the right car for me, given the small hatch-door/window loading area. (I regularly have to load and unload guitar amps into my car) I started doing some pre-shopping this weekend and looked at a few other options.

Kia Spectra 5 - My little bro has a 2007 Kia Spectra 5, and as much as I like the fit, finish and overall high-quality nature of the car, I just can't get over how it drives. My first thought was just throwing in a STS, drop, and rims on it, but the aftermarket seems to be horrific for it, meaning either low-quality parts, or custom fab. The 5-door is a bit of a turnoff too.

Honda Fit - Crap those things get expensive quick! Nifty little cars, but once again, the 5 door turns me off to the car. The car drove alright...but the thing I couldn't get over the most was the fact that it felt completely neutered. Perhaps I'm spoiled with the whopping 140hp :)lol:) I have in my Focus...but damn...it was bad.

Toyota Yaris 3 Door - I have no idea why I even bothered. I've seen some cool looking modded Yari, but Jesus Christ this thing drove like a pile of donkey **** stock. The interior was pretty nice, and I might be interested in the more optioned-up models...but it seriously felt like someone pinned some Ritz crackers to the side of a potato and stuck a Toyota logo to it...oh, and I thought the Fit was slow.

Nissan Versa 5 Door - Fail.

Scion XB - I loved the older XB's, but hated the lack of power. I hate the new XB's, but love the power...I'm stuck in the middle. If I could get the old body style with the new motor I think it would be my perfect car...I don't even care about the extra two doors...but I really don't like the new body shape.

VW Rabbit - So I dropped by the VW dealership near the end of my spree and took a Rabbit out for a spin...which was probably a mistake. See, I'm getting a new apartment sometime within the next 3 months, and I want to be moved in and settled before I get a new car...but holy crap...I felt like Goldilocks after the test drive. About the same space as my Focus with a much more sporty driving position, more power, far more refinement...pretty much everything I wanted in a car.

Now, with that in mind, I'm curious...I haven't been keeping up on when the Euro Focus and the Fiesta come over...and am not sure of any rumors of specs regarding the engine sizes, 3 door/5 door options, and possible HP ratings. This is where you guys come in...anyone have any of that info yet? I know there are a few threads circulating, but there is a lot of pondering in the hundreds of posts regarding the cars, and I'm hoping to see if there is any more definite information. A guy at the Ford dealership (where I looked at a Fusion, which doesn't even require mentioning) I went to yesterday mentioned that there is a possibility that both will be here next year, and I'm wondering if anyone else has heard that. I might be willing to hold off until I see what they have to offer, but not if the wait is going to be 2 years or something.

Thanks for reading the book that is one of my first substantial posts outside of OT in the past few months.

The rabbit is awesome. I love them.

I would wait and see what shows up next year for MY10. It really just depends on how fast they can convert the current factories over to the new model, along with parts availability and logistics. That, or just find a nice short lease on the bunny, since it really is a great car, and then look at the Euro/American model when it comes out, if you don't like it, just purchase the lease.

I had a good hard look at the Rabbit a few months ago and I was impressed. Light, agile, and what a car for the buck. Win!

I nearly pulled the trigger on a Rabbit but the thing got overpriced in a hurry and every VW dealership around here (two within a 1 - 1 1/2 hour drive mind you) are filled with a bunch of douchebags who made the looking/test-driving experience bad enough. I couldn't even imagine actually purchasing a car from them and having to deal with them for servicing. Other than that and the not-so-great gas mileage and my own personal uncertainty/hesitance about a 5-cylinder motor the Rabbit's a great car.

thanks for the new sig ;)

I like the bunnys, they're great. But for hatchbacks I really think the Mazda3 is a winner. Good power, super smooth engine, and a nice interior. I'd tell you to check them out before you get too set in stone on the wabbit.

Rabbit sounds like the best choice as far as cars that are available at this moment.

The Focus is supposed to be a global car in the next year or two and it should be great so, idk what you are leaning towards. Airforcefocus- who is more than reputable- claims as early as MY10 which is even better. What you want and when you want it I guess.

If they ever make a TDI Rabbit, i'd be all over that like a fat kid on a candy bar. I do have my little '05 with 58k miles if you're interested!

anyways good luck

You're welcome.

Ok seriously this is a 2005 ford not a 1975 ford. How much have you already spent in repairs? What is actually wrong with it?

If you just hate money send some my way.

If you just want a new car go get one.

If you're trying to financially justify a new car? Give up, you can't.

Maybe five years from now you'll be able to, but I 've seen you in OT. You really want to be spending thousands more to replace a car that doesn't actually need replacing?

Just to muck up your thread and give it that "news and debate" feel.

Constantly going further and further into debt with no real need is how we (as a nation) got where we are right now.

:screwy: He is hauling guitar amps and other equipment... a hatch makes much more sense.

The Rabbit is a great car... I chose a GTI for performance reasons, plus it gets better mileage. The 5-cyl Rabbit is a torque monster, and feels good, just nowhere near as smooth as the GTI's engine though. Both are quality, well built cars, and should last a while... Only buy or keep a VW if it has a warranty, maintenance costs will add up fast.

You'll never get rid of the Focus. Period.
Yeah, I had dreams of making it a track car...but those dreams just aren't as feasible as I would like them to be, now that I'm putting more money into my music.

I haven't spent anything in repairs, really, just maintenance. The power-train warranty comes to an end soon, and I haven't exactly been kind to my car. As for financially justifying it, I'm going to have to get rid of it at some point, and I'll get more money on it now than I will 5 years from now. I know that, in the long run, it's just cheaper to keep it, but we're all car guys, remember. As for going back into debt, the only things I will ever finance are cars and houses. Fortunately, a car falls into that category. ;)

Right now I'm thinking this is my best option. It'll give me more time without a car payment to get as much of a down payment as possible, and I'll have more of a chance to see what other things come to be from Ford.

Any chance someone knows whether or not we are getting the 3 door Fiesta from Ford yet?

??? They do make those, but maybe not selling in US.
There is 21 diesel engine & gearbox combinations made for it by VW and then tuning company specialities on top of that.

Jetta is same car with different body shape and that you seem to have also as TDI in US... find a crashed one and swap engine. ;)
