DETROIT - A new General Motors Corp. incentive will allow car and truck shoppers to test drive a vehicle overnight.

The offer will last from April 15 through July 31 and will apply to nearly every GM model, excluding the Hummer H1, Cadillac XLR, Chevrolet SSR and Chevrolet Corvette, company officials said.

Customers may test drive the vehicles for 24 hours and are limited to 100 miles. The vehicle must remain in the dealer's state.

Drivers must leave their current vehicle at the dealership and must have insurance and a valid driver's license, McGee said.

I wonder how long it will be before we start seeing 24 Hour Test Drive night at local drag strips.
I'll take the corevette and the...umm...uhh....ehh......

SO when is Subaru gonna start doing the same thing?
I have a Ford dealership in my home town that has done this for years.

like askjeffro a local VW dealer here has been doing this for a while too. is a good way for them to show how much they want your business if they are willing to trade with you for a night.
Pretty soon you see FORD offer a RTO plan. Rent it for a while(week or so) then later if you dont like it just return it or you can buy it.

It beats signing a 12month lease then have to pull out lump sum doe later on.
The dealer where I bought my focus let me test drive it for a week. I had well over 500 miles on it when I signed the papers. I could have just said, "No thanks", and then turned around and bought it used hehe

the Z06 is a Vette and it says this

....excluding the Hummer H1, Cadillac XLR, Chevrolet SSR and Chevrolet Corvette, company officials said.
<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">so I'd say yes. If anything, even more-so on the Z06 becuz of the cost and exclusivenss(atleast more so than a standard C5)
Another reason to never buy GM.

Customer: Why does this car have 80 miles on it already?

Dealer: We let a 17 year old kid test drive it for 24 hours who probably did e-brake slides, clutch destroying smoking burnouts, rev-limiter endurance tests and some rally racing before going to the car wash and cleaning it up and returning it full of gas.

Customer: Oh, that sounds like a good idea. I'll take the car!!

Ever seen a balloon made of lead before? Thats because it won't fly. I forsee the same future for this gimmick.

+$0.02
I don't care, I'm going to get me an escalade or an H2 for 24 hours!
Personally I don't see this new promo working for GM for example:
1.The cars will have up to 100 miles on the odometer when returned within 24 hours.
2.Limited availability for the model, color and options for the cars, truck and SUV's being "loaned out".
3.Abusing the vehicles during the overnight test driving.
I am sure there are limits as to how many times you can test drive a car overnight from the dealerships otherwise why bother buying a new car at all right?

This has been going on in the automotive industry for a long long time. Really nothing new.
A Ford dealer in Tampa Florida begged me to take home an SVT Focus overnight. I declined and did not want to put the miles on the car because I KNEW I was not ready to buy at that moment.

If the customer is seriously considering the purchase of that car, then it might be o.k. I believe GM is making a mistake with this promotion.
I can see each dealership haveing like 3 of each model car with varios trip packages (probably loaded) dedicated to just this. So the car you get to use overnight to go to the drag strip has already been there every night for 2 weeks straight by 14 different people. That way they dont destroy the regular fleet of new cars they are selling. GM will most likely sell a set of cars to each dealership with a rebate promise after they loan out the cars to a bunch of people, that way the dealerships will be more than happy to take part in this.

Oh yeh I can also see someone sueing because hey got in an accident, and will try to say it was GM's fault for loaning them the car.
