A Ford dealer in Tampa Florida begged me to take home an SVT Focus overnight. I declined and did not want to put the miles on the car because I KNEW I was not ready to buy at that moment.

If the customer is seriously considering the purchase of that car, then it might be o.k. I believe GM is making a mistake with this promotion.
