Ford makes this engine in North America. The 2.0 SOHC Focus engine is basically the same engine used in the '97-'99 Escort. The major changes from the 1.9 SEFI SOHC from the '96 and older Escorts were increased displacement from 1.9 to 2.0L, revised combustion chamber design to improve air flow and split port (dual runner) intake system. There were a bunch of other minor changes, but the engine has the same basic architecture as the 1.6 and 1.9 SOHC Escort engines.

It is NOT related to the older Ford Pinto/Capri 2.0/2.3 SOHC, to the Mazda 1.6/1.8 DOHC (323, Protege, Miata) or to the Ford Zetec DOHC 1.6/1.7/1.8/2.0

Hope this helps. It should be pretty clear that the 2.0 SOHC is a FORD engine.
