hey,

my gf owns a '87 VW Cabriolet, and we are having an issue with it:

the car is refusing to start sometimes, when turning the key, the engine DOES turn-over, but it has a lot of problems catching, whereas you have to tap on the gas whenever you hear it catching hoping it would..

now heres a list of things i have done to it recently:

fixed a heater hose (ripped in half)
added a bit of 'small engine tune up' found at my local Crappy Tire,
and drove it for 65 miles.
added some 'barts' rad fix (turned out to be hose problem) into the overflow tank..

after this 65mile drive, it started acting like this. any suggestions?

I was thinking of doing this:

checking the spark plugs to see if they are dirty / old / need new ones,
checking the fuel injectors or adding some of that concentrated fuel injector cleaner,
checking the spark plug wires to see if they are still working (how?)
and then checking the starter,

I dont think checking the starter is in order because the car does fully turn over, it catches, revvs to 1000-2000, then dies really fast.

any more suggestions on what to do besides what i have mentioned?

Thanks
~Lorne

Wow.....I'm trying to think WAY back in the day to my VW/Audi obsessions....

Didn't they have a cold start valve? I seem to remember something like that always failing on my 85-89 GTIs......

I could be completely wrong here....
