They went to a lighter weight in 02 for the fuel savings to improve on thier overall rating. But when I bought my 02 the service departnment recommended I use 5/30 so tht's what I use. I use Mobile 1.

The recommended oil weights were 5W-30 on older ones, 5W-20 on newer.

5W-20 is more difficult to find, and any resulting mileage benefit is small. Plus I'm leery of running the real lightweight stuff in an engine that is run pretty hard.

I've run 0W-30 Mobil 1 since my first oil change. No problems whatsoever. Particularly in the frigid north, the lighter it is when cold, the better.

I run 5W-30W Castrol Syntec from Walmart in my 2002. It's $16 for a 5qt jug. It runs fine just like any other engine. The ZTEC is no different than any other engine as far as oil requirements go. Its just an engine.
