One week two tickets

752 Views 18 Replies 14 Participants Last post by  Dev
So I've had my SVTF for six months didn't run into any 5-O, but I made up for it last week. I just left my house going to work, I got busted 61 in 45. Ok, my foult. Exactly one week later busted, not for speeding but for an illegal muffler. I was told it was too loud and anything over stock is illegal.

Anyone elese get one of those?

By the way I'm looking to get rid of my offroad pipe now since the cops in my town have sensitive hearing. If anyone's intrested I let it go for a good price.

an aftermarket exhaust should be 50 state legal most are. the ORP is not legal in any state just some do not check for such things.
but if the ticket is for exhaust, then change back to your stock Cat and dispute the ticket.

I may be interested in the ORP.
Ha. That sucks...Go to court and show them the 50 state legal certification (You should be able to get it from the exhaust manufacturer) then go into court and tell them that the cops ear is no way near as accurate as a Microphone and there is no way he could tell if it was actualy too loud or not... then tell them to test your car and see how many dbs its putting out. They wont want to waste the time and money and drop the ticket.
Where are you located in IL...I might be interested in the O.R.P.?
50 state legal is not for sound. In IL it is illegal to change the exhaust in any manner that makes it louder than stock. so any after market exaust is realy off limits. I know had to pay two fix or fine tickets for my 3" on my old DSM.

The orp does make it quite a bit louder. I don't know if the noise issue is illegal here but I always mello way out when I see a cop. Even coast by when I can. We have mobile air check stations here now that check you as you drive by. so rather than get busted I will probably just put the cat back on and not worry about it.

English please!? You must live in a little town, because after The Fast and Furious movie...everyone has aftermarket fart-can exhausts, that sound like crap! Unless your driving by a cop with your foot in it, you shouldn't have a problem, but then again, when you live in a small town I know the co-cheese can be a pain!
As long as you have an intact fully functioning exhaust system they really cant screw with you too much. ORP.... they can and will bust you for that, but as for having an after market exhaust thats louder than stock....... I would have to see that in writing.

1 AN ACT concerning transportation.

2 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3 represented in the General Assembly:

4 Section 5. The Illinois Vehicle Code is amended by changing
5 Section 12-602 as follows:

6 (625 ILCS 5/12-602) (from Ch. 95 1/2, par. 12-602)
7 Sec. 12-602. Mufflers, prevention of noise.
8 (a) Every motor vehicle driven or operated upon the
9 highways of this State shall at all times be equipped with an
10 adequate muffler or exhaust system in constant operation and
11 properly maintained to prevent any excessive or unusual noise.
12 No such muffler or exhaust system shall be equipped with a
13 cutout, bypass or similar device. No person shall modify the
14 exhaust system of a motor vehicle in a manner which will
15 amplify or increase the noise of such vehicle above that
16 emitted by the muffler originally installed on the vehicle, and
17 such original muffler shall comply with all the requirements of
18 this Section.
19 (b) A vehicle of the first division may not be seized or
20 impounded solely on the basis of a violation of this Section.
21 (Source: P.A. 77-37.)

22 Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon
23 becoming law.

this is still a bill and has not been passed by the Senate yet.
It has to be that way because you would not pass the emissions check in chicago area with an aftermarket exhaust. I work with a guy who just put magnaflow exhaust on his mustang and he still passed emissions.
It is BS anyway. As long as you have every part in there it should be legal. last movement on this bill was the first reading in the senate in 4-21-05.

Does it sound like a weed eater? I'm thinking about purchasing one.
Speeding was your fault, in my area we get dB fix-it tickets. I just pop the car into neutral when I'm passing a cop or rolling through my neighborhood, or a friends for that matter.

You should get the blue passport, it is a good investment, saved me quite a few times.
Ask them how many officers on their force ride Harleys with aftermarket exhaust.
That sucks....but I still have yet to see anyone beat my record of two speeding tickets within 5-hours of each other.

Two tickets with in 5 hours tops my record. The worst I got was when I bought my RSX, had it for 4 hours and a got a speeding tiket, then one month later another one.

Well my cars all quiet now I took the offroad pipe off and it sux. I liked when it was loud. I usually coasted by cops to, but this time it was an uphill start from a red light, no way out of that.

I have never heard of people getting pulled over for having a loud exhaust before, ive never had any problems with the cops with my magnaflow on, and i know people with even louder exhausts than that who have never had problems. I am pretty sure that it is exhausts that produce over a certain dB are illegal, maybe he was just harassing you.
Hmmm...lets see...

Careless Driving
Speeding 70/30 (Down from 90/30)
Said State Requires 2 headlights

Speeding 70/55

Stopped for improper vehicle opperations in a parking lot. All the same night withtin 3 hours of eachother.

Sorry those are posted backwards...bottom first...top last
