OK so I went for a second more extensive test drive of the Nissan frontier and placed an order for a…
2006 Nissan Frontier Nismo
King Cab 4WD (4.0L 6cyl 6 speed Manual)
Utility bed package
Side Airbags
Floormats
Traction Package (Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC), Hill Start Assist (HSA) and Hill Descent Control (HDC).)
Dealer offered me invoice (which is exactly the same as what edmunds.com listed as “invoice” on the car plus tax, title, registration, weight surcharges, and sales tax.)
Trading in my current car is optional, but if I choose to do so I would get at least $6,000 for it in a few months when I actually go to trade it in (with almost bald tires, about 60,000 miles, and some gouges on the rear bumper, but otherwise in very good shape) If I sell the car private party before it comes time to trade it in, I can just pay the 6,360 difference on delivery. (CT charges sales tax only on the difference between the 2 vehicles, not based on the initial sale price) The car is a ZTS mach focus. The dealer told me since they were not paying anything extra for the car for being a limited edition car if I do trade it in, I can strip out/ replace any parts for standard ZTS parts I wish, as long as they parts I swap our are in good shape. So the $6000 is assuming I take out things like the HID headlights etc… and just put in standard lights instead. They are not offering me more money for them, so they do not need them to trade the car in.
This came about from a lack of stability control or side impact airbags in my current focus (if you don’t know why that is such an issue to me, do a search on my past posts!) lack of manual transmission, and a lack of space to move gear around. I can not fit a tool box, a drum set, or a ½ stack (amp, and 4x cab) in my sedans trunk. Let alone more than 1 of those at a time.
I am still debating what I want to do with my focus… It’s really a love hate relationship. I really do like the cars, but I hate all the little crap it gives me, and the fact it is not configured the way I want it at all. I am partially debating keeping it as an urban runabout car, and using the truck just in snow or when the focus does not have the cargo room to move stuff I need. The problem with that is the fact the cost of insuring a second car, and the cost of parking it is going to probably far out weight the cost of extra wear and tear on the truck and worse gas mileage. If I can cheaply insure both cars I am tempted to keep both cars, but I don’t think that is happening. If I did do that, I might be able to make the focus a fun project car.
I am planning on moving so my need for an urban runabout depends on I am on the transit grid or not. If I can get a good place with easy access to public transit, then I won’t need a urban runabout, and the truck can be used just for when I need to move stuff, or make long trips off grid.
Maybe I can buy a REALLY cheep ZX3 as a beater or something.
