I have been doing some reading on here about ORP and just want to know if it is worth it? It seems that alot of people that have them are having problems with it. If I am going to have problems with it then I won't even put the thing on. Any info would be great

just put it on

I've had the FC one on for a while now and haven't had any problems with it, aside from the slight resonance and buzz. Other than that it adds some nice pep and a throaty noise to the stock exhaust. I've got the RT one sitting waiting for a warm break, wanted the SS since the rust belf sucks goats. I'm wondering if there will be any real difference between the two sound or performance wise, I doubt it though.

Thanks for the reply. I just don't want to put the ORP on and have to worry about breaking or anything like that. I would love to put it on and forget about for a long time.

I think most of the problems with the FC orp breaking stemmed from the mounting tabs that attached to the stock upper cat bracket. They flexed to much and broke the welds, the later gen. FC ones did away with the tabs. Shouldn't have any problems with the RT orp though, doesnt mount to the cat bracket and it's put together a whole lot better than the FC. I'll get side by side pics when I swap them.

I have the FC one, I would try the RT pipe if I was to do it again, the FC one looks like a monkey cut the flanges out on a bandsaw

, so in visual respect it was garbage

, but never had any problems with mine..

they do now. The original FC orp had two "wings" for attaching to the cat bracket, you can sorta see in this pic

Those are usually what ended up breaking and putting a hole in the pipe. Now they just rely on the header and flex to support the orp. No big deal since it doesnt way 20+ pounds like the stock cat.

So should I remove the cat bracket or leave it in? I was told that it was best to remove

I just want to make this whole process as easy as possible. That way I don't spend all day doing it

I was told to take it out because it will be easier to line up the cat if I have to put it back in later

Sorry for asking so many questions. I just want to make this a smooth as possible.

hmmm, interesting. I havent had to put it back in yet, so I'm not sure which way would be easier. we are talking about the bracket on the rear of the block? It's going to go up to 40 this weekend (freakin heat wave, heh!) so I'll check it out.

Yeah that is the one. I guess I will just take it out and then if I need to I can put it back in later. If it is going to get to 40 then you better get your shorts ready

The cat bracket is 2 pieces. One that attaches to the block and a second piece that attaches to the cat. They are bolted together with 2 bolts. It get my cat off easyer I unbolted the 2 brackest. I left the one that attaches to the block and the other one is sitting with the cat in the corner.

I think that is what I will do. Does anyone know what size bolts I will need? I want to have some lined up just in case I mess up the old ones

i just so happen to have one of the bolts that came with my FC orp here at my desk
Image
and it's 7/16 x 1.5" The original ones are metric though, 12mm at the cat bracket and 15mm on the rest. The heat shield bolts are 8mm and will probably snap right off, heh. I broke a couple studs to...was quite fun.

So should I get 7/16" or use metric bolts? I just want to get some bolts ahead of time. I am going to try to reuse the stock ones, but you know how that will turn out. After throwing some tools and saying some choice words I will end of breaking all the bolts and using new ones
