Is there some way to trick the car's ECU into thinknig that the O2 sensor is ok and working when in fact I'm removing it for a aftermarket header? I think i read something about it a while ago but I can't remeber and i already did a search.

Yes.

Get an SCT Chip or Flasher from FocusSport

Pre cat, or aft cat?

Buying a tuner just to kill an aft cat CEL from a race header is a bit of overkill IMO.

Check the fj sponsors page, I'm pretty sure theres one or two that sell a "cheater" or MIL Eliminator that costs alot less than buying programmer.

Cheaters are not 100%... tuning is. The other benefits that come with are well worth the investment.

No doubt Todd. But he didn't ask "What tuning options do I have and will it kill the CEL".

He wanted to know how to kill the light from the race header and a MIL Elim is going to be the quickest and least expensive option.

Also I ran the same MIL on my car for 2+ years and when I got my SCT from Focus Sport I gave it to another jetter about a year ago and it's still working to this day.

he asked if there was a way. I showed him a way. IMHO the best way.
I went thru 2 cheater harnesses within the space of a few weeks. They only worked for a few days and then the light came back on.
Ok your in NY (so am I) i would recommend calling Mcnews Automotive and talking to them (ray is the man) hes in PA. He sells flashers and chips and you can get your car dyno tuned there which is nice(the way to go). just give him a call and ask him what he thinks, he'll help you out. Good luck -Jon

What about something like this? I just had to drop alot of money on tires and [censored] for the winter. so I'm not yet ready for a Chip yet. Plus I need to pass inspection. Will this work?
There is always a mechanical cheater, they never fail

I don't get why you need to remove the o2 sensor?

all the race headers have provisions for the EGR and the 2 o2 sensor bungs.
