Time to make some planning, i know Mike had a couple of ideas. Lets start mapping ideas. If it will be like a 200 hundred mile round trip...., i think, should there be key places to visit? and whats this twisty place i keep hearing about? this is gonna be great! cant' wait, and i hope nothing comes up to where noone can make it. hopefully everyone will be able to DO IT!

sounds good to me!

We need to map at a start and finish, just in case some cars can't keep up(me), break down(me!)

and like lil' mike was saying earlier, end or start at the beach!
Let's try and make thistowards the end of oct. so katie can make it?

baby points? the beach sounds like a good ending point, since Mike mentioned the sunset shot! ;-) its cool, we have plenty of planning to do.

-maps are a check

-jumper cables check

-jack and stands check

-spare tires check

-tools check

anything else other than those items? like edible snacks or sumthin.... ideas ideas....!

we could easily set this into a road rally. like a twisty day, but more structured and geared towards a safer drive.

I am also for a rally, but we need to have a formal sit down session to set one up. Maybe we can see what the turnout for a twisty day drive will be and then try to set up something with a little more brain usage. I do have that "Weekend Driver in San Diego" book that shows good drives and the key points of each drive. It's full of directions and tips and tells you if the roads are suitable for all cars, or just SUVs, or if the roads are not kid friendly or whatever.

I was trying to talk to Justin about a pic opportunity as well, but we would need to ask a couple higher ups if it was ok for us to go on their property. Down there on Cam. Ruiz in the dip going towards Miramar is that huge construction zone with the big ace gravel piles and junk. I personally think it would be awesome to take some shots in there if we could get the ok. Dunno.

i'll talk to my buddy. his car club (www.slocars.net) does road rallies all the time and he's usually the one setting 'em up. i'm sure he'll have some good pointers for us.

for those unfamiliar with a road rally concept, the idea is that you have a bunch of checkpoints that you "race" to. but, what keeps it safe is that it's not a "fastest time" thing. usually, the one running the event will determine a time they deem suitable to make the trip in a fun but safe pace. closest to that time wins the leg. usually, my buddy will set 'em up so it's more of a challenge of actually finding the place, almost to the point that a co-driver / navigator is very necessary!

OIC, thats what you mean by a "ROAD RALLY" this could get interesting!! hehe..... so that would mean less foci on the road if there were to be a co-driver/navigator??

#10 ·
Not necessarily. It would depend on who you wanted to be your navigator. If the navigator happened to be a fellow Focus owner, and they chose to navigate instead of participate, then yes, there would be one less Focus in the game.

It would have to be stressed that speed would not be an issue in this. I'd like it to be similar to the Jetfest one where it was miles on the odo, not speed based. But this wouldn't be a line of Focuses like what you may be wanting, as everyone could take their own unique path to get to the checkpoint.

Well looks like I'm out of the planning. Cause no one listens to me anyway. I'll be up for the rally though (probably).
WTF are you talking about? we'll all discuss this at the next Fudds. if you wanna be in on setting it up, by all means! i don't mind being the one who kinda puts all this together, but don't make it out like i just plan everything my way or the highway.
