Well i dunno if they're the same,but impala ss's
of the same year were rated at 260 HP....
The Base model....
Weight: 4061 lbs.
Engine Size: 4.3 liters
Horsepower: 200 hp
Max Horsepower: 5200 rpm
Torque: 235 ft-lbs.
Max Torque: 2400 rpm
Drive Type: RWD

The large "wagon" version...
Weight: 4473 lbs.
Engine Size: 5.7 liters
Horsepower: 260 hp
Max Horsepower: 4800 rpm
Torque: 330 ft-lbs.
Max Torque: 3200 rpm
Drive Type: RWD

They are both pretty slow. I can't remember the website, but a few months ago they did a performance review of police cars -- they aren't that quick. High 7's to 60, and high 15's to the 1320.

we have a cop that comes out and chills with us and makes jokes and we got back at him once by saying that, Do all the cops get together have a cookout and pop the hoods and all that fun stuff. The cop starting laughing and said oh yeah, with our big bad 230hp engines.

so i would say 230hp!

old school cop cars had big motors and were fast current cop cars are no faster then their stock versions, and really i would bet they are slower b/c of all the extra weight
The police interceptor's are faster than the stock version of that car. It may not be much, and the suspension on most are awesome. As far as the added weight it's not that much weight to a light bar and a divider. Besides we take out the back seats and put in light weight plastic ones. And me talking about this makes me miss mine.

the only decently fast cop cars are the ones they've seized and use as undercover vehicles...vettes, etc

Here's the real deal, from a cop car fanatic.
And yes, I've owned one.

95 Caprice 9C1 models (that's the cop version) could be had with a 200hp 4.3L V8 (rare engine), but most came with the optional 5.7L V8. That one put out 260HP, as some others here have said.

I have to make a note here about cop car suspensions. As you know, cop cars have stiffer and sturdier suspensions than the civilian versions. But it doesn't make them handle better. They stiffer and use stronger components so that they can handle the abuse that these cars are subjected to - ploughing over dirt fields, hopping curbs, etc. So yes, they are stiffer and ride more firmly.

But they don't handle better - Popular Mechanics did a comparison test of a civilian Crown Vic and a Crown Vic P71 (the cop model) about a year or two ago. The civilian one outhandled the P71 hands down. Why? The cop version actually sits one inch higher for better ground clearance and also to compensate for all the cop equipment that gets installed. The suspension components and wheels are very heavy duty, so that means lots of unsprung weight, which also hurts handling.

Don't matter to me though. There's just something so cool about a cop car.
I don't plan to embark on a high speed chase any more than the average SUV owner plans to go off road, but it's cool knowing that the car CAN.

I regret selling mine (a CHERRY unmarked 94 Crown Vic P71 that was used as an admin car for some Texas river authority, so it never got abused), and I would love to have another.

There are 2 versions of the police interceptor for the Caprice. Some have the 4.3 in them, which is like 200hp (single exhaust). The others have the 5.7 LT1 in them good for 260hp (same as the SS). Low to mid 7's to 60.

EDIT--DAMN he beat me to it.
