Hi. First post.

I got my Focus as soon as I arrived in Canada, in July of last year. Back then I didn't know much about the North American motorization options. After a while, I found out that the SPI engine, which my Focus sports, has this issue. Bummer.

On the right side, as far as I know, it didn't happen to mine (yet). I say so because I bought it with around 80.000 km, so it didn't reach the "danger zone" yet. Right now it has around 100k and is working fine as far as I know.

The trouble is, I don't plan on selling it as I've bought it for quite a chunk of cash that I wouldn't probably get back, not even close. The minor repairs that had to be done were made when I bought, as required for certification purposes. Those were mainly about the brake rotors. I also take great care of it and, other than being afraid of having the SPI engine failing on me; the car is serving me well. Corrosion on the frame was there and not mild, but not severe either, so I just cleaned everything, used anti-rust spray and applied the rubberized coating after that.

So I was thinking that it would be a good idea to just get another head that wouldn't have the issue and install it.

One more thing is, I need to get the head from the US of A, but I am in Canada. The shop I've contacted about it doesn't send it here.

I wanted to know what are your thoughts about this. Would I be fine? Is it too complicated of a task? I've bought a nice stack of tools, but I have to ensure that I have everything I need if I decide to tackle it myself.

Thanks.
