Problem with Steeda Tri/Ax and RS knob

588 Views 6 Replies 6 Participants Last post by  Mr. Blue
I just got a Steeda Tri/Ax shifter and I have an RS knob. But when I screw the knob so that it is tight. It is too low for the reverse lock out to work. I can't shift into reverse. If I unscrew the knob enough to let me go into reverse the knob moves everytime I shift. Which is pretty annoying. I want to keep the reverse lockout if possible but don't really want to glue the knob down either incase I ever need to take it off some day. Any advice?

?? do you have it on right? I just instaled mine and if any thing I would say the ball sits two high. But I can use the lock out and every thing.
This is a pretty easy fix.

Go to a hardware store & look for a bolt that screw into your shift knob. (if you can find a set screw (full thread, no head w/ allen key hole) or a piece of all-thread would work also)

Use a hack-saw or dremel & cut a small piece of the threads off the bolt. Consider notching one side so you can use a screw-driver on it.

You've just made a spacer that will screw all the way into your shift knob. Now you can thread your shift knob on tight & it will be that much higher.

OR, you could try filling the shift knob thread hole in a little with some epoxy. It would give the same effect, but would be more permenant & God help you if you accidentally get it in the threads that will be used!
I had the same issue, but I just put loc-tite around the knob's thread, then tighten the knob until it was straight and the reverse lock-out worked. Let it dry, and that was it.
I fixed it. I found a small nut that was able to fit inside the knob and then screwed it tight. It allows enough clearence for the lockout. Thanks for the adivce!

That is what i did on my new edge performance knob.
Just thought I would throw out that plumbers tape works as well.
