I put a AEM pully on my ZX3 and when I started driving it my battery whent dead. Has anyone have this happen to them? Is alternater going to slow to recharge the battery?

I'm not an expert but an different sized UDP will charge your battery, just not as well a the stock sized one. It certainly does a well enough job unless you are idling in traffic at low RPM and running all your electrical accessories at once. Sure sounds like it is not turning at all which means the belt is slipping. Even if you look at it while idling and its turning it may not be once the engine is loaded up. I don't have a UDP but I know they require a different sized belt. Do you have the proper belt?

Is your alternator light on? If so, you have a charging system problem. If not, I would get the battery load tested.

2001 ZTS is correct in the sense that your alternator will charge adaquately with the UDP...however, I don't think it would be the belt slipping since the tensioner is automatic and, if the belt was that loose, you wouldn't have power steering among other problems.

Did this happen at the same time you installed the UDP? Perhaps you knocked off or loosened a wire on the alternator.

Hope this helps you diagnose your problem. Good luck.

Are you running a large stereo? Lots of amps, speakers, caps, etc. If so the UDP will have an effect on your charging. I underdrives all of the accessories including your alternator. This is usually fine with the stock stereo or some electronic equipment, but if you jump up to multiple amps and the like, you may have charging problems.

DOES ANYONE CARRY ALL THE PULLIES BESIDES THE CRANK UNDERDRIVE PULLY.YOU SEE I HAVE A STEREO SYSTEM(1 10"WOOFER WITH A 600 WATT AMP)ON MY FOCUS WOULD THAT MESS AROUND WITH THE CHARGING ON THE CAR?OR DO I HAVE TO CHANGE MY ALTERNATOR PULLY?AND IF SO WHO CARRIES THE ALT. PULLY.OR SHOULD I CHANGE THE POWER STEERING & WATER PUMP PULLY TOO?

I've heard someone say they run both the alt. pulley, and the underdrive at the same time with no problem.

Also, I've heard that a shop that rebuilds alternators can modify the alternator to get more amperage. I don't know if this is true for our new alternators.

I also run both and have had no problems. I have a decent stereo too, but you probably guessed that because it's the Sony Limited Edition.
