Ok...So I have a date last night, but thats another nightmare...
Anyways, we end up getting lost, in the dark, in the rain, in a neighborhood that neither of us is familiar with...I go to pull into a parking lot to try and figure out where we are, and the next thing I see is a four foot wall of water blasting out in front of my car...
...It seems like every road in that neighboorhood has really poor drainage, and there was a river about 3-4 feet wide, and of undetermined depth flowing in the shadows along the side of the road, and accross the poorly-lit entrance to the parking lot...
...Some of you may recall that I had installed a custom intake with an unprotected high-flow filter hanging low on my car...
...Well, fortunately it wasnt on my car at the time...Thats all I can say...
I drove out of the 'river' (and the resulting cloud of steam), and popped the hood...Everything looked cool...No weird noises or anything...Its still running...There was some condensation on some components under the hood (not realted to the soaking, though), but no real water...And the car continued to run/drive normally for the next 100+ miles till I parked in my driveway...So...All seems good...
The moral of this story?? ...I tend to ramble...
...But if theres some technical lesson here...If you have an open-element filter on your car, be very careful where you drive...I know this is a no-brainer...But with the location of the filter on a PZEV, it seems much more important...
Sounds like you got lucky. I took one of my Neons swimming and I changed it with another intake, one that was way to close to the ground. Point of my story is that I snapped a rod sucking up a bunch of water - but the engine did have about 134,000 so it wasn't all that strong.
