I have the Escort Passport 8500, it was a little expensive $299 but well worth it, once again this is a you get what you pay for experience.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">I too have an Escort Passport 8500, 2nd best out there but i got it b/c it was $100 less then the best, worked more then well enough for my driving style and can be linked with a 100% legal laser jammer

the best is the Valentine 1 but i like the 8500 better see this link:www.caranddriver.com

you cant get a good one for less then $300, the cheaper ones have a useful range of about 500feet
and false all the time(I know my old one was a joke)

but you have a bigger problem, I dont know if a detector made for the USA will work in Hong Kong

as far as i know you cant use an American one in Europe, they use slightly different radar systems(just like radios)

it's something worth looking into before you drop as much as $400 on one of these things

Rule #1 of 1:

The best radar detector will do you no good, unless you know how to use it.

Learn before you buy, or it is a waste of money

I have the Valentine would sell it in an instant if it still worked. It was all right but after buying the 8500 it became a paper weight and now doesn't even work. With the V-1 I got 6 tickets never got one with the 8500. The 6 tickets were all due to instant on radar which for some reasoon the 8500 picked up and the V-1 didn't. I would say after 2 years with the v-1 and 2 years with the 8500 the 8500 walks all over the V-1 regardless of what Car and Driver dip****s say.

I use mine pretty religiously, but i tend to not speed (excessively?)... keeping aware of your surroundings and how cars around you behave makes a big difference too (on the highway, or other highly trafficked road). on back roads, that ... spirited... driving may occur on they are a must.

beware of laser. beware of aerial timing runs. beware of them just pacing you. (etc, etc).

-100% agree with 'be one with your radar detector' -
