Rear Brake is leaking fluid, what can it be?

I just went outside and saw some fluid on the ground after I moved my car. After looking for coolant leaks or oil, I discovered that the fluid was leaking out of the drivers's side rear brake area. Last week my e-brake light went on, and then when I was installing a svt ebrake handle the cable snapped and stopped working. I didn't get a chance to figure out where it broke at, but after I see the fluid I think that has something to do with it.

Any ideas on what it could be exactly? I might just take it to the dealership and get it all fixed, but I'm afraid it will cost a fortune.

Anyone know how much a rear brake job will roughly cost? Also, will the leaking from the rear affect the brakes all around? I don't wanna drive the car if the brakes are going to fail, and I have no e-brake. Let me know.

Could be a seized up caliper.
I had this problem with my first car. It turned out to be a wheel cylinder, which is the part that takes the brake fluid and moves the shoes in the drum. when mine went I lost all brakeing ability. I dont think I would drive the car untill I got that fixed. I had mine towed in.
The e-break is cable actuated so you will be able to use it in an emergency(hence the name). get it to a shop asap cause you sound like you wouldn't be comfy doing the job yourself.
I've never done drum brakes before. I could probably figure out how to do it, but time is against me. I'm gonna test it out tommorow morning to see if they work still. It leaked a little bit that I know of. My dealership is only like 3 miles away so hopefully I can get it there without having to make an emergency landing.
I would think twice about driving the car. when mine failed the brakes did not work at all. and the emergency brake failed as well because the shoes came out of place. the only way I got the car stoped was by leaving it in gear and shut the motor off.
Well if I have any doubts I'm not going to. I drove it around the block after I spotted the leak and it seemed to stop fine. After I got back I didn't notice any obvious puddles under the car, so as long as there isn't a huge puddle and the brakes seem to work I'll take my chance. Thanks
i'd say wheel cylinder as well, although it could be a hose. inspect the hose. if you can't find the source of the leak, i'd be almost positive it's the wheel cylinder. i have yet to do it on the focus, but wheel cylinders aren't that bad. putting the shoes back on is more of the pain in the ass!

I drove it in today. Thankfully the brakes still worked. It turned out to be a bad wheel cylinder. I had them do a whole rear brake job, since it probably never had one in the first place. I ended up paying more than I wanted to, but at least it's done and won't be needed to be done again for awhile. Thanks

glad you got it fixed without too many hastles.

if the wheel cylinder was leaking, you would need a full brake job anyway. it's highly likely the brake fluid contaminated the shoes, which makes them worthless.
