How hard is it to install a aftermarket rear mount? What brand mount do most of you guys have, and where did you get it? I am thinking of getting one, and I just wanted some info. Thanks!

IMHO, buy the inserts for $18 - save $82 and the headache of broken MAC mounts or VF mounts where the two piece bushing squashes itself out in little bitty pieces.

The factory bushings will need to be pressed out - most auto stores can do it, for a couple bucks. Some folks cut them out.

I have the VF rear motor mount and I haven't had any problems with it. This is the first I have heard about a VF Mount breaking.

The install is pretty straight forward. I followed the How-To on the focusfanatics website you might want to check that out.

I had the inserts, and they kept popping out on me, then I went to the VF mount, and haven't had a problem since. The VF mounts are a good quality piece.

You see your problem is...SUPERMAN!

If you install them correctly with the correct torque they wont "squish" themselved into little tiny pieces... Thats all im gonna say on that one.

MY VF Rear mount is going on 30,000 miles ohhh yeah...and i'm 21.

PS. My right foot ways at least TWICE as much as yours :p

I've had the MAC mount (from CFM) on for over 25,000 miles with no troubles.

Have seen one that split the bushings but the owner had greased it and I believe the grease attacked the bushings. Yes, it HAS grease fittings installed but there is no reason to grease it unless it makes noise....which mine doesn't.

Supposedly, some MAC mounts have broken their welds. But, I believe they were used on extreme drag cars. Street use shouldn't see that problem.

If you get the mount you are going to want to look into a tune also.
The stock tune's idle is about 850 and the car can vibrate pretty good at idle, especially when the cooling fans kick in. My dash started to get small rattles after being fairly tight up untill that time
A tune will bring up the idle if you let the tuner know.

Sorry to bring back an old thread, but I'm beginning to worry. I keep reading that the stock tune's idle is 850-900. Mine has idled at 1100 for the past two years (since I had it reflashed with yrf0 because of the hanging rpms). Is there something I'm missing, or is my car going to explode?

If you plan on doing any road racing I wouldn't get one because they will break!

However if you have no plans of that then check out VF Engineering for mounts.
Says who? I've never heard of the VF E mounts breaking while road racing. IIRC, they are an upgrade to the current mounts, not a downgrade.

I have had the rear mount for 1.5 years and the drivers side mount for 1.5 weeks. Both are awesome and complement each other very well. I had zero extra vibration with the rear and a little extra vibration with the drivers side. I am going to install the passengers side in 1.5 weeks. I can't wait to feel the "totally hooked up" feeling that comes along with stiff engine mounts.

I couldn't break the bolts on my own, had it on jack stands and the car was rocking so I brought it down to a mechanic to be safe. Paid him $40 to install. By the way I have the VF rear mount. Got mine from CFM, but you may want to wait till CFM comes out with theirs if it is going to be beefier. Next mod RhinoRamps.

I've had all 3 VF mounts in for over a year with NO problems... and I'm running about twice the power as most of you guys.

I've squished the bushing out of the lower VF twice now.... Though FS takes care of their customers!
$16.99 p/n: 213143-1 at Modern Performance will get you the lower mount with the fat lip. The fat part goes towards the ground and unless you do a lot of reverse clutch drops you cannot pop this bushing out. With two sockets, some ingenuity and a big C clamp I pressed them in myself. No reason to waste $100+ bucks.

Very true, FocusSport took care of mine also.. good bunch of guys over there

See the other topic on mounts (in Forced Induction) for a solution I did after my VF failed.
It cost less than a buck, and has held up under my abuse for 20k miles.
