Research Paper on \"Negative Effects of Street Racing on Society\"

Do you guys think that there is anyway I could actually write a research paper on this? I mean "RASR" has some good articles but I need to come up with 20 pages in a size 12 font so I need more then just a few articles. Should I stay on track with this or go with something like "Force Induction" , "Custom Autobody" , "Hot-Rod and Custom Car Building" or any other ideas? I do want it to be related with cars and what I love so I enjoy the research.

I would suppose you might need to do a little research. newspaper articles, state patrol statistics, DOT NHTSA stats, etc.

Damn good luck on it first of all.....Good choice....You say you want to add in other things and gave some good examples....I would....unless the project calls for you to stay on one certain topic I personally would go into different aspects of what it takes to make a car better, or to look more nice. Just my opinion

Talk to some law enforcement officers, usually a public information officer would be helpful. Also, talk to some prosecutors and judges.

For that matter, see if you can speak with anyone who has been negatively or positively impacted by street racing. I'd try a 60 minutes type approach here, you want to show the phenomenon of the whole aspect of society.

Neat topic might be "evolution of the Hot Rod: Muscle car to rice-racer"
You could show the development of the Pony car culture, and then it's down-swing during the oil crisis, and the rebirth in the 80's with the Sport Compact.
That way you could cover the other topics (street racing, customization, impact on the auto industry offering (the factory hot rod of the 70's vs the SVT's of today)).
Easily 20 pages, and there's tons of info out there.

Whatever you pick, when you finish, post it. interested to see what you come up with.

your thesis is "negative effects of street racing on society". you have to stick to that. to delve into different cars and such, deviates from the topic and will earn you no points. I think you would be much more sucessfull if you changed it to "effects of street racing on society." that would allow you to write a compare and contrast paper of the positive and negative. you could examine things like, deaths, insurance rates, police budget, rise of the aftermarket industry, hollywood, effect on new car designs...... on and on. I think you should easily make your quota with all those options to explore. plus, you will be on topic and make a good grade.

couldn't have said it better myself TXFO. by putting "negative" in your thesis which is your title your only going to have to talk about the newgative sides of it which will be deaths and such. By putting information on lets say bodykits or forced induction you'll be off topic just by doing that. statics would be very good to add in your research paper.

its all about the fluff and puff sir. Take the most common negative effects. Then branch off those negative effects. and so on so forth. i can turn a 3 page rough draft into 7 or 8 pages no problem.

unfortunately, when you get done, you have an 8 page piece of crap. there is a difference between expanding on your ideas, and filler materiel. If you get into good detail with your subject, use lots of supporting materiel, and take time to expand on your contentions, than you will have a good long paper that is all killer, no filler. If you just puff it up to make the page quota, its pretty obvious, and mediocre.

Yup, I totally agree. I think you should totally stick with the "negative" aspect. You could throw in the fact hollywood has made money, but I would not be willing to "characterize" that as a positive effect. More of just a side effect, which in turn propogates street racing

The fact is, street racing has implications beyond the "moment". There is a heirarchy or chain reaction of events that has been set off. So if your looking for "angles" to add length to your paper. Take a look at how it effects different sects of people. Different government and private agencies, police, fire and safety organizations. How it effects local business. How it effects the social interaction between people (both on and off the street). Etc.. Etc...

You take a your broad thesis, and then break it down into sub reports touching on different effects individually (which can be mini reports in and of themselves). You should be able to cover your 20! Plus you can NEVER underestimate the insert of "opinion" throughout the page

My views, If they opened up more tracks that people could go to and race it would be good for society, it is good that people have intrest in cars. If They just made it a safe place to race it would be fine. plus the kids would have a hobby that they do and they would be more interested in that than going out and getting high or getting drunk.
