Man these cars are so silly.

This one time a guy brought this smart to the shop, that sucker is TINY! Everything is small on that thing! I think the brake calipers came a bicycle! Driving it felt weird, when I went to park it I was 5 feet away from the curve (too use to driving long cars), and I was still in the parking space!

Saying that, I wouldnt mind owning one for light communting.

I don't get it, whats so funny???? :dunno:

Supposedly there are already 10k+ $99 reservations for the SMART ForTwo....
Agreed. Yes it is small. That's the whole point. You don't need a Mercedes Gladenwagen to drive around town in.

I honestly see the Smart car as purely a niche vehicle here in the US. Sure it's a perfect city-car (which is precisely what it's made for), but even at that the price is higher than I expected it to be. Where I live no one would need one because we don't have a city large enough to offset the cost of having a strictly downtown-traffic car, but in big cities I'm really hoping that it takes off. Just think guys, this could be on tiny step towards getting the plethora of gargantuan land-yachts off of our roads :D

People who buy smart cars is like people who buys a prius.

They are not buying the car to save money, they're buying the car to help move the world towards sustainability.

****, who am I kidding? They're just buying the car so they can look cool to their hippy, bamboo clothes wearing friends.

I personally think it's a step in the right direction. For normal consumers definitely.

I would ABSOLUTELY get one if I had the spare money. It'd be my DD. Of course, I'd have to have some cash to get it since I'd want some awesome weekend warrior.

I think Thameth is with me on this one, but cars slightly bigger like a Mini Cooper and Fit, etc etc are really good. They're nice, finished nice, and most handle and drive awesome. Plus, last time I checked, we average like 34mpg in our Mini. My Focus doesn't get even close to that mileage. Maybe on a cross country trip.

I almost cried when I saw the fuel economy figures for the Smart. The one thing that could have put this car on the map would have been 50+mpg fuel economy figures. But sub-40mpg and premium fuel doesn't say much. The car is space efficient, but its not going to revolutionize American roadways.

Uhh where did you get "Sub-40mpg"????

Engineering and testing continues to take place on the vehicle that will be produced for the United States. The vehicle is designed to achieve 40 plus mpg under normal driving conditions and current standards. The gas tank of the smart fortwo is 8.7 gallons.
When I was at the SMART Roadshow event the guys who drove the car cross country said they normally got high 40's and if you drove conservatively you could get just over 50mpg.......

The one thing I do agree with is that we should be getting the Diesel SMART which can get up to 70mpg...

It's this type of attitude that will hinder sales of an otherwise smart (pun intended) idea.

You know all these comments were said when the Smart came out in Europe. Now you see them EVERYWHERE. I know one guy that stole his wife's and he now drives it daily.

I drove one about 3 or 4 years ago when the company I was working for was manufacturing some parts for them. They are pretty damn fun!!! Surprisingly have a decent amount of room in them (passenger space anyway ...)

Hey, I never said I wouldnt drive one, I'm just being realistic.

Why spend $11,000 for a smart, when I can spend $2,000 more for a Honda Fit? Yes I wouldnt be getting 40+MPG, but 35+MPG works for me too.

Now if the Smart was $6,000, then I'll be the first in line. As of right now, the cars costs too much. As of now, they're just a status symbol. Maybe if the cars takes off and they start selling them at a more justafiable price, then they can become a contender.
