SD may no longer need to borrow my Dad\'s truck anymore.......

Hey guys -

if any of you check out the NorCal section at all, you may have noticed that I'm looking into a truck that's located near San Jose. Here's the link:

http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.jsp?ca...dist=300#vdptop

thefrush has graciously offered to go and check the truck out for me today. if he says it's in as good of shape as it looks, i think i'm gonna do it. i'd fly one-way to SJ on Saturday morning and be back sometime that evening. KBB on the thing is $3730, so I'm trying to get them down to $3800 and I think I'll have a good deal. carfax checks out as completely clean but shows it may have been on the lot since January which means a deal should easily be had.

So, what do y'all think? I know this may seem a little odd (esp. with my wanting the GTO so bad), but I've really been missing my truck lately, esp. after tooling around with all the ones at the ASiM event. The payments on this thing would be next to nothing, as would be the insurance. Plus, my thought is that this'll give a vehicle to drive around when I get more serious about selling the focus.

I have a good amount of experience with F-Series from this era since I've owned one, my father's owned one, and my best buddy owned one as well. It's a good truck that's easy to work on and should be very reliable but a pretty nasty gas guzzler. The stick should help, though.

Anywho, your thoughts?

Mike

true, but it's STOCK. as in BONE STOCK. which means it was never toyed with. come on? 80K miles on that thing? that screams "some old guy's P/U who never drove it."

if it makes you feel better, i'd probably throw down for some big honkin' floormats with the chic silouhette on 'em!

hey, how about a CB radio? not that it surprises any of you whom have met my family, but we have a few old ones just sitting around that I'm sure I could install, complete with giant antenna.

YAY whip antennas. Well, if Jay could have a CB in his Focus, there's no reason you couldn't get one for your truck. And I don't care if you want truck nuts or not. They will be on your truck.

main "mods" would probably be intake, exhaust, and a stereo. that's about all i need.

a lift MAY come sometime in the future, but i'm trying to keep this thing as cheap as possible. i don't need another money pit. i was never a huge off-road kind of guy. i mean, i'd hit some dirt roads now and again, but nothing REAL crazy. if i did do a lift, it'd probably only be about 4", 6" at the most.

oh, and the first person to come near my truck with APC gets a swift kick in da nutz! i'm already lettn' y'all hillbilly-deluxe it out. what else do you want?

oh, ok. i'm sure you could mentally picture it, though. 89 F250 std. cab long bed. 2WD. bone stock except for the typical add-ons like a bedliner and aluminum running boards. other than that, bone stock down to the stereo! real midwest-looking kind of thing.

if i go through with it, you'll see it next Tuesday.

Can we put a tarp in the back and fill the bed with water and make a ******* pool?

yeah. 351W w/ a ZF 5-speed and a Sterling 10.25" rear. can't get more bullet-proof than that. i don't know what the gearing is, though. i would guess 3.73s on a 3/4 ton, but 3.55s may be possible. i hope it's not in the 4s. gas'll be bad enough as it is. truck has all i need and nothing i don't. P/S, AC, tilt, cruise, sliding rear window. No PW or PD, which i could care less about bc it's one more thing to go wrong.

just waiting for frush's report now......
