EAST HAMPTON, N.Y. - Jerry Seinfeld was in a harrowing rollover wreck but was unhurt after the brakes on one of his vintage cars failed.

Seinfeld was driving alone when the brakes on his 1967 Fiat BTM stopped working Saturday evening, East Hampton Town Police Chief Todd Sarris told the New York Post. Seinfeld tried the emergency brake, to no avail, and then swerved to keep the car from careening into an intersection, Sarris said.

The two-door sedan flipped over and came to a stop just yards from the highway, Sarris said, adding that the comic's maneuver "probably avoided a very serious accident."

The wreck was attributed to mechanical failure, and no summonses were issued, Sarris said. Seinfeld, 53, did not require medical attention and returned to his East Hampton home.

"He was a little shocked when he walked in and it started to dawn on him what happened," said his wife, Jessica.

Okay, I'll bite.

I'm not familiar with a Fiat BTM... and google isn't helping.
this is the best guess that I saw

A New York Times blogger asked someone at the Classic Car Club Manhattan who saw photos of the wrecked car, and he said it looks like a Dino hardtop. The blogger guesses that BTM stands for Bertone - Turin - Maranello.
but maybe somebody got confused and threw together DeTomaso Mangusta

I'm betting reporter error since they also called it a "two door sedan".

The real story about Jerry Seinfeld's Mystery Car Crash
by Jean Jennings - Automobile magazine

Fiat BTM?? Fiat Dino?? What exactly was Jerry Seinfeld driving last Saturday when he was involved in an accident? Newswires and bloggers across the planet--including the once-esteemed New York Times---got it wrong. Newsday got it right. Seinfeld's new toy is a 1967 Fiat 500, a vintage car owned by many discerning collectors. Yes, I have one.

More facts: brakes failed. He didn't roll it, but says it just "sort of fell over on its side," Arte Johnson style.

As much as we try to keep the celebrity coverage down to a dull roar, this wild reporting (some of it accompanied by photos of Mr. Seinfeld purloined without permission or attribution from our own Automobile Magazine, driving a Porsche Carrera GT he wrote about for us) compels us to express our dismay at this major gaffe by the NY Times. Don't they just call and check the facts?

But it gives us a little promotional opportunity here. Pick up the June issue of Automobile Magazine (on sale the first week of May) and read Seinfeld's story about his little Fiat, written pre-incident. It's a corker.

We will NOT be bringing you any other updates on Mr. Seinfeld's daily whereabouts, his garage in Manhattan, what he had for breakfast, the IQs of his children, and so on.

Because we're NOT that kind of magazine.
