Shifter Loose/Wobble, Worn Shifter Linkage Parts

To my knowledge everything from the shifter to the transmission on my SVT is original and very lose at this point (123,000). Having to wobble the shifter into gears is getting very old. What parts from the shifter knob to the transmission itself need to be replaced to tighten and speed the shifting up? Upgraded polymer parts of Ford part numbers would be great.

Help me out people :D

Sounds like you need a new shift lever spring if there is a lack of accuracy with the shifter and it feels slack in the neutral (if the shifter doesn't bounce back to the middle if you let it go quick).

Really easy fix, took me about 25 mins and involves removing the gaiter and a few bolts.

Other than that if it more down to the shifting rather than the lever the cables may need adjusting

^^ Actually - can't remember if it's his thread - but he (or someone) showed how you could just TURN that part a quarter turn and things would feel like new, since two sides of the "cube" are the ones getting worn down while the other two just sit there.

I'd like to know an easy way to get to that part (I have no access nor place to lift, jack, or ramp mine up) and turn it myself...

I guess the way to get there and do this is to remove the battery and air box area. Then get your hands down there. I bet it's a pain to do with the tran still in the car.

It's not difficult at all; just remove the airbox and inlet hose and you should be able to reach everything you need to. Disconnect the upper shift cable and remove the two bolts that hold the upper linkage in (the two in the left of the above picture) which the square bushing is attached to. Then spin the bushing, reinstall.

It was indeed Wungun who was the OP. I did repeat it in a number of threads though, and yes I can make you a shifter bushing if you need one. :)

Considering I'm on vacation I think my response time was pretty good!

Hey it's not all snow up here. In fact Windsor Ontario has the same latitude as Northern California. Although it did snow while I was in Ottawa...

Anyway RevLimit I still haven't got your address so I can't ship it out. PM me please.
