what'd ya buy? i need to find a good deal on ammo for my .45 and i might be down, if avery wasn't so damn far away from here though, anyplace out in the dezert you know of?

 

I got a S&W sigma 9mm. Nothing special. I got it for a fair price so I am happy. The only places I have been in the desert are out near Buckeye (which is way farther for you) and out past Ben Avery. There is always Shooters World on Indian School and 27th aveish.

 

Depending on what day I am willing to go also. I personally shoot at Shooters World myself but it is 13 an hour for lane rental. I also have a 9mm and love the 25 yard ranges with those wonderful picture targets they have.

Is Shooters World still members only? Last time I was there was about 7 years ago, then I let my membership expire.

Some rangers up north showed my friend where they shoot. It's in a small quary past Carefree... but unfortunetly he has the map. We spent pretty much the whole day going to places where we used to shoot, but it was prohibitted. So we went to the ranger station to see if there were any places left.

As long as everyone is competant with a firearm, I prefer to shoot in the desert.

 

I go to scottsdale gun club. Looks to be $15/hr.

Shooters world is open to the public. Membership not needed. And there are a few places up by Carefree Highway and I 17 to go shoot also. By the fed prison and up by nipple mountain also. But I know I am not taking the Focus out there. Quite rough terrain.

 

www.arizonashooting.com they tend to go out by black canyon city, but if we're gonna do that we might as well just go to Avery. How about out canyon lake direction somewhere. I know most of you have only been to the end of the pavement up there but it seemed like a quick hike off the road could get you into a pretty safe location to do some shooting.

A drive/shooting meet around Canyon Lake would be sweet! I think those series of lakes (at least some of them) are on the reservation though.

 

there's some decent shooting by peralto, giving that you do need to go a little off road/gravel driving. the place i went had a mountainside as the background, so you didnt need to worry about hitting anything..

 

I live in Cave Creek, and Ben Avery is relatively near my house.

My brother's father-in-law owns some property up north of Carefree. He modifies automatic weapons for a living, so he goes up there to test out stuff every once and awhile. Now don't quote me on this, but with far enough notice I might be able to find out when he's going up there again and maybe see if some people can tag along. Last time I saw him he said once it warms up he'll take me out there again. If you pay for the rounds, he lets you shoot some of his stuff and he usually take some sticks of dynamite. It's definetly not possible to get there in a Focus though.


He may also make fun of you if you bring a 9mm.

As for ranges I'd vote for Ben Avery too but saturday's out. The advice to be remote when looking for a non-range, is excellent advice, When I go 'out' it's not like Canyon Lake (not remote enough) but really remote so we can be alone and shoot the weapons we want, when we want, as we see fit.

Out near Tonopah is usually where I go. There is nothing but farm land and desert.
