I have a very simple repair question. Somehow my wife completly knocked off her driver side mirror. I have a replacment in hand, however, the rubber grommet and bolt are gone.

After searching forums and google I have yet to find out what bolt I need to use to replace the missing one and what size grommet replaces the factory one.

I have taken the door panel off in search of the missing parts but came up empty handed. The bolt specs alone will help a lot, I can makeshift something to replace the rubber, but would really not enjoy sitting at orileys trying every metric bolt they have in stock trying to thread into the replacement mirror.

Not that it matter, it's a manual driverside mirror on an 01 Ford Focus LX (aka f%cka$$)

Thank in advance. If all else fails I'll just pull the passenger side mirror and take the bolt up to orileys for a replacement.

Ace

*Edit*
Pulled the bolt and still cant find it's replacement. Any ideas on where to get the thread and length info on the bolt?

If a plastic cutting thread bolt you will not find it except at Ford. There are 50 different design bolts that the auto parts will not have, they are generally the worst place to find a specialty bolt there is.

Pull the pass side bolt to get a thread and length, no one will have plastic cutting thread specs at all if that's what it is..............I use normal sheetmetal screws to replace them but if you do not micrometer the base of thread OD, then very easy to think one is right and then screw it in to break the part all to pieces, gotta have some sense there..........common to need to run a slightly larger drill bit in to get proper clearance and fit. Then they work perfectly. Sheetmetal screws must be clearanced more because they cut more brutally in the hole.

Well I found the ford motor part number, W704528-5309 "Bolt-HEX HEAD" they want 10 freakin dollars for it. Riiight. I'm just gonna get a hex head that I can thread in. I'll have to find a rubber gromet to fit and magnitize a socket so I don't lose the passenger side bolt.
