Mechanic out on test drive dies in three-car wreck in Ft. Bend Co.

A mechanic who worked for Champions Chevrolet was killed while out on a test drive Monday.
ABC13 Eyewitness News
(3/29/04 - FT. BEND CO., TX) — An auto mechanic out test driving a sports car died in a three-car accident Monday morning in Fort Bend County.

The mechanic worked for Champion Chevrolet and took a Camaro out for a test run on Highway 6 about 11am Monday. A state trooper says the driver lost control and hit an SUV head on near Bissonnet. The Camaro then skidded into another car.

The Camaro driver died at the scene.

Yeah, I believe, every time I get my car back from the dealer the turbo timer (which I switch off, but it still stores peaks and time) always reads over 5 minutes for countdown. When I usually cruise on the highway around 75 it normally reads at 3 minutes countdown.

It's too bad the mechanic lost his life, but they shouldn't be treating customer cars like that.

I always write my mileage down and compare it when I get my car back...

A few times they've tried to listen the radio but because I have a modulator you can't get any stations, but it still bothers me that I take it for an oil change and they find it necessary to fiddle with the radio.

next time I drop mine off... I'm gonna leave the GPS running and map exactly where they drive.....
I found out that my eTrex fits INSIDE my closed "gutted" ash tray, and can somehow still get a signal even though it can't see the sky through the dash. Totally invisible. I always leave it in there to see how many miles they racked up, top speed, and where they went. They've never gotten my car over 80, but once, they went to Arby's in my car.

Did you tell them that? I was once offered a ride home (when I went to drop my van off at a shop) in a customer's car while they "test drove" it

( I said no!)

No, I didn't tell them I had a GPS hiding in my car. What would the fun be in that. Maybe next time I show up I'll ask how their food was at arby's, but it's been quite a while.

my friend worked at a Ford dealer over the summer once and he said that when they would test the vehicles after repairs/maintenance, they would beat the piss out of them. i HATE taking my car to the dealer for that one reason. my normal mechanic is AWESOME and he would NEVER do that, but sometimes i have to go to the actual dealer and i fear that!

I have a "freind" and i mean that in the loosest possible sense, cause the guys an ass. But anyway hes a ford Mechanic, and well someone brought their 03 cobra in. Well he was gonna change the Oil, So he drains it, takes a break, and then gets in and tears around town, welding the engine together.

Yeah I had my brakes done at a place that will be left unamed. After about two hours I see three machanics going out of the parking lot in my Blue 86 Z-28(383 srtoker), they roar off and I'm like WTF! So I go ask the manager if it takes three guys to test drive my car and he's like "No why?" so I tell him what I saw. They finally came back 20 or so minutes later. In the end I got the brake job for nearly free.

I was just a 18 year old kid at the time I was just happy not to have to pay for the new caliper and rotors they put on.

my husband did that to me once. I bought him a car, he left me so I took the car back

day before he brought it back him and a friend drained the oil, beat on it and then filled it back up.
I sold it 2 days later and didn't find this out for probably 6 months.
