According to a release by Ford Racing and Ken Block via a promotion (Give away of a RS) there will be only 2000 Rs made for the US.

2015 Golf R
2015 Audi S3

Both amazing cars from personal experience. The Golf R I rode in has a stage 1 APR tune and is FAST. Decked-out with nav and adjustable suspension etc. for $41K plus a $900 tune and it'll run 11.9 in the 1/4.
After experiencing these cars it will take a lot from the Focus RS to impress me.

The Golf R, S3, and STI would all get my vote over the RS. If I was going to buy a new 2015 vehicle though, it would be a MX-5. The new generation looks damn beautiful and unlike Ford's strange addiction with fattening all of their cars up, Mazda has actually trimmed fat from their new models. Plus you'll never get a fat 3400+lbs RS to handle like the 2300lbs Miata. It's just not gonna happen. I have a 06 MX-5 and with stock suspension it works on my Focus with H&R coilovers and swaybars.

In reality though, If I'm paying $36K for a new car, it's not gonna be a fat 3400lbs 4 banger. Not when a GT500, C6 Z06, and even 08-09 Godzilla can be had for similar price.

The new Shelby is 47K that's 10 K above what the RS is projected to cost, not similar a all. If you are talking use performance vs a showroom car, you haven't made your case because we could compile a long list of cars that might fit the bill.

So some perimeters. Name a new car, that can compete with the the RS. The RS was benchmarked against the ones you named and they were deemed no longer relevant.

I'll patiently await the reviews.

Plus, a Golf R with a tune? I'm thinking if you're going to cast that out, I'll wait for a Focus RS with a tune to compare it to.

If it'll be 36k in the States, that's over 40k up here. :(

Lol. GT500s are CobraJets for stretchy-pants-wearing-dandies. They do build a performance car, it has an RS in its moniker. A family car with a little get up, like a CTSV Wagon? Or E63 Wagon?

Please drive one and get back to us.

I've driven a CTS-V and it felt like a brick. The FoST also feels like a brick to me. Ford isn't showing any signs of the RS being any different. Plus any MK3 Focus is uncomfortable for me to drive, mostly thanks to the 4/5 door being the only option. I feel less cramped in my Miata than in a FoST, which is sad.

Hopefully Ford will make a Fiesta RS with a 2.0L Ecoboost and AWD at or under 3,000lbs. Knowing Ford's recent history though, they will most certainly find a way to make it weigh over 3,000lbs.

3000 pounds 3000 pounds only on FJ do I hear theirs lament. For the record my daily driver bone stock Focus ST dominates at the autocross. On my way to a second season class and points championship. The nearest Miata finishes 4 sec behind me.
That Miata must not have a turbo...

I agree about the Fiesta RS, though it would likely keep the 1.6, and I'd say it likely won't be AWD, though it would be awesome. The Fiestas are right around 2600 pounds right now, and the RS AWD system is probably pretty light, though we won't know until the official specs arrive.

There are many types of performance, and a hot hatch will never be a RWD coupe, they are what they are. I'm fine with that. I still think rendering an opinion on the characteristics of any car without at least driving it is kind of like complaining about the weather that might happen 2 weeks from now.

Fiesta RS-2Lt, for a reason. mainly WRC

8K FoRS For European Market, 8K for North American market and 2K for the Pacific market.

Mine doesn't. Puts my ZX3 to shame. Handles better out of the box that the ZX3 ever did, even with extensive modification to suspension. When you add in all the do dads that the ZX3 didn't have, the weight gain is inevitable. I don't want to drive around in a shell, gutted interior, etc. Those days are long gone for me. I like the daily comforts and owning a track / autocross capable daily driver.

If I could afford to have both I'd be all about the weight but when my car must be all things, I can't think of a better car than my ST, other than a RS.

Comparing a new car to a used car is kind of ridiculous don't you think? In a comparison like that the new car loses every single time. Also bench racing about the new RS that hasn't even been in the hands of magazine testers yet is also pretty ridiculous.

S3 STARTS at 41k. And is a sedan. The ride would most likely be more refined, but 292 HP is NOT on the same page as the "hinted at" numbers that the RS will be sporting. And curbs at 200 lbs more. And VW has s#it the bed on the US as to what they offer up in any Gulf since the original hot hatch GTI. There is supposed be an RS at Ford Nationals this weekend. Great! Will it be demo-able? Most likely not.And if it is, you will probably have to be signed up on Thursday to get in line. F that. I carry enough backside liability on my policy to total a McClaren. THAT should be a requirement. under 30? Can't take it out. Sorry.

An Audi or a golf...are not the same as a RS...a good friend has a R32...but is smitten by driving my RS.... But can't veer away from the halo version of 'his' marque.

My car, apparently ...feels the road surface and communicates this info to the driver via the seat of his pants and the steering feel.

The Fiesta ST is more akin to the SVT Focus as far as chassis and steering are concerned. I don't doubt that the Focus RS won't have any issues with outright grip and brake and steering, but it is 600 pounds heavier and 4x4, so it won't feel nimble and active as much as ye olde SVTs. It's a different beasty.
