spider lock on shifter

anyone know the part # for the spider lock that holds the shifter in place?? broke it and ford doesnt really know what it is..

I'm not sure, but I have a feeling you broke the shifter base. Maybe get a metal one and you won't have a promblem. Damn Ford and their plastic.

Spider lock? Do you mean the little gray plastic retaining clip that has tabs that stick out sort of like the petals on a flower?

I just replaced that clip last weekend, and now 5th and Reverse suck - the shifter is too tight now . Guess I should've left it alone with my Mickey-Mouse workaround, which had held up just fine for 20 months (I used an E-clip/metal washer/nylon washer combo). I had the console off to replace my e-brake boot, so I figured I might as well install the real shifter clip. But I guess if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

If that's the part you're talking about, I can look it up when I get home. I got mine from Tousley Steve (FORDSVTPARTS), who is a great guy BTW. For really small orders, shipping might not be worth it, but for anything over about $15, I'd get it from Steve.
