I'm not sure, but I have a feeling you broke the shifter base. Maybe get a metal one and you won't have a promblem. Damn Ford and their plastic.

Is that the retaining clip you're talking about? How many did you brake. I broke a couple and it still works. It's very very fragile. If you have the part out, just bring it in to the dealership, they'll (hopefully) be able to figure it out.

Good luck!!!

Spider lock? Do you mean the little gray plastic retaining clip that has tabs that stick out sort of like the petals on a flower?

I just replaced that clip last weekend, and now 5th and Reverse suck - the shifter is too tight now
. Guess I should've left it alone with my Mickey-Mouse workaround, which had held up just fine for 20 months (I used an E-clip/metal washer/nylon washer combo). I had the console off to replace my e-brake boot, so I figured I might as well install the real shifter clip. But I guess if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

If that's the part you're talking about, I can look it up when I get home. I got mine from Tousley Steve (FORDSVTPARTS), who is a great guy BTW. For really small orders, shipping might not be worth it, but for anything over about $15, I'd get it from Steve.
