SRT 4s are slow...or is it the drivers?

Last night I went to the local drags out at Las Vegas Speed way. There must have been at least 10-12 SRTs. I was told one of the guys had 310 to the wheels. Many were running slicks etc, and the fastest 1/4 mile time of the whole night by one of those things was mid 14s...WTF?.. All I here is how fricken fast those things are and how they will smoke Mustangs, Camaros and V8s in general.

Well considering there was a lifted 4x4, 4 door Dodge Diesel, 22s, giant offroad tires, and it ran 14.3s all night.

There was a pretty sweet Civic that I have seen before running 12s run after run.

You would think a 310rwhp SRT could smoke a fricken truck..LOL

My buddy (not a good drag racer) ran his 04 GMC with the 4.7 liter, 20s, exhaust and chip and busted out a 15.92.

Diesels can get pretty insane though with a few mods. Could have been elevation or maybe just noob drivers.

Yes and Yes, I get those bozos revving on me all the time. I just purge on them and they back down.... OH well. They are fun cars though, I just think lots of people can't drive their powerful cars. Oh well good luck

I have no clue really why they are so hyped, the srt4 guys that claim "oh my stock srt4 would destroy your mach 1,gt,w56 etc... are as dumb as bricks. So overhyped, personally not long ago i seen a basically mach 1 vs a modded srt4 and the mach 1 cleaned his freaking clock.

The srt4 is so hyped because it is flat out the BEST performance bang for the buck EVER built. The car runs low 14s stock. With a factory supported upgrade costing only a little over $3000, it WILL make 400whp and go 11s in the quarter with daily driver reliability.

If a modded srt is running slow, it is because the guy doesn't know how to drive. There is nothing more to it.

^^ ditto no highly modded srt would run 14s unless the track is slow or the drivers are bad and i dont like the srt4 very much other than the performance aspect of it

Exactly.

elevation, drivers, bad track prep, no motor mounts

(wheel hop sucks bad), i have an srt-4, they are fast, i stay right next to my buddy's 13.8 second gti at the track of course, and i'm bone stock. i know a guy that ran 13.6 stock (factory freak obviously), but most are pulling 13.8-14.1 right off the assembly line. yes a lot of srt owners are ****y pricks that can't drive, but don't take it out on the cars, take it out on the ****y pricks, the cars are fun as hell in straight lines (and in turns to me, doesnt seem much worse than the svt and i had a cup kit). so the point to my rambling is, the car itself, is fast, the person driving has to make it happen though.

Actually, stage three is closer to 5K and will put you at 359 hp and 36X torque.

LVMS does seem to have decent track prep during Test & Tune's and big events, but if it was a Midnight Mayhem race then they usually don't get much prep. Cold track, elevation, etc. all combines to not so great times. When I finish up with some "upgrades" I'll probably head back out there with my SRT-4. On the stock turbo with Mopar's Stage 2 and an upgraded intercooler I was able to run consistent 12.90's @ 107. Below are some of my slips, and as you can see traction was an issue and there was even more room for improvement in the 60' times (running slicks but with 40-50Âş track surface temps). This was run at California Speedway in Fontana. The following week I was racing in the IDRC Internationals up at LACR in Palmdale, CA which is very similar to the elevation of LVMS. With no other changes my car went from running consistent 12.9's to 13.3-13.4's. The track makes all the difference in the world.

This was not a Midnight Mayhem. This was the NHRA thursday night drags. They actually have winnings etc. Pretty cool.

You must be a better driver, because these guys all had stuff done to there cars. The fastest was a very stock looking yellow one with slicks. He ran consistant low 14s. Most did not sound tuned very well. They were all crackling and popping all the way down the track.

ever?? i think that's a bit of a stretch. currenty? probably. ever? nope.

Ever? Definately. Name something better.

As for the stage 3 being closer to 5 grand and only doing 360whp, tell it to the two people local to me who paid ~$3500 and are doing 400whp. True aftermarket kits make even more power for even less money, though their torque and driveability is not in line with the stage kits.

I'm just quoting what Mopar tells me. That is what all my literature says. I don't doubt that it is higher though.

The 1964 Pontiac LeMans GTO cost around $3,000, and ran the quarter mile in 14, or as low as 13.1 with re-tuned carbs. Teh win.

Fixed.
too date, yes.
Why are you quoting me and changing what I said?

The stock GTO is more like a mid-high 14 second car stock.

That $3000 is equivalent to the $20k that the srt costs and srt has all around substantially better performance and factory supported cheap upgradability. SRT wins by far in my book.

"Bang for the buck" doesn't mention inflation.

Besides, that $3,000 was buying you more than just a Neon.
