There are small differences, but they are pretty much the same exact car. Maybee STFUN could help out more with this one, because i really can't remeber... It is mostly cosmetic though... Like different rims, and of course the front bumper and grill. They like all U.K focus's use the car key, to open the hood "bonnent" the ford emblem flips to the side. they have different fog lights, and they have a clock in their car. Oh yeah, and of course eveything that says SVT on are car, says ST on theirs

"of course" like the spark plug cover, etc.

 

Yeah, we get a digital clock and you guys get cruise control...weird or what ?

I do have to say that I like the climate control set up better. It just looks better to me for some reason

Is that the ST shift knob? I like that one better than the SVT.

 

i guess the big confusion on my part is that i thought the SVTF was engineered by SVT. yet under the hood they are practically the same. so i mean, is the ST 170 just a rebadged european SVTF?

Yes. Designed for both markets at the same time.

I've searched all over the forum, to no avail. Is there any place that sells the st170 shift knob? My SVTF knob is all scratched to hell (don't ask), and the st170 looks PIMP.

 

the shift knob is the only thing i changed.
it is a 6 speed gear knob from a focus MK2 or c-max.
it´s available in silver like i have and in black.
i paid 15$ on german ebay site.
later i´ll post the original ford part number.

The other difference is that the USA no longer has the SVT while Europe still has the ST... and the new ST kicks ass compared to anything Ford offers here.

 

Hopefully Ford thru SVT will produce another performance model with the nextgen US Focus. Lets hope they learn from the Fusion to use corporate platforms for the small cars.

The AWD Volvo S40 T5 would be a good start. 5 cyl cars sound awesome!

I wish the SVTs had the older US airbag with the smaller Ford emblem (as pictured in this ST). This huge pillow of an airbag that they put in the '02+ Foci with the gigantic Ford emblem looks really cheap.

Does anyone have any pictures of the ST engine bay? I'd almost be interested in trying to find an ST cover.

Anyone know where guy can track down a used center console like those shown on that ST170? (what year is that car?) Ebay has failed me yet again... though the search continues.

those are very rare in europe too. so i think you have to buy a new one.
this one shown in the picture is my actual car and it is a pre production car build 18.08.2001

 

I can see the audio controls on the steering wheel stalk in that interior pic, so I wonder, did the ST170s come with the Audiophile stereo? If so was there a reduntant clock display? That seems too silly to be true. I know radio is completely different in Europe, so I may have just answered my own question, but then I wonder, why the dash clock and not just build it into the radio like they do over here? Mysterious.

 

Can anyone post a photo of an SVT engine bay with the cruise control servo on it (probably on the firewall behind the engine)? I'm planning to install one in my ST170 but looks like the vvt is in the way.
